Smile Lunging Tiffany *update 4 & 5 post 4*

We have gotten the walk down! Yes

I am so flippin' proud of us...being able to see progress makes me feel so much happier and she is changing too. I am loving this.

We did 30 minutes of walk yesterday after the lateral yielding and backing. She is doing well, moving relaxed with one ear on me. She is now at the end of our 12' lead line. I am going to move up to a regular lunge line for the real test

We also practiced 'whoa' and changing directions. She is good when changing from right to left, but changing from left to right is harder, she gets it but it's not as smooth of a change. That's her more difficult side.

We do ten or so good circles and then change direction. Repeat.

What next!? (in what order should I add trotting and or tack?)

*pictures coming*

How exciting! I have been following your threads on your lunging progress with Tiffany- isn't it a great feeling when you can see the progress and your horse changing and *getting* it

My personal opinion would be to do trot work before adding tack, but I am far from an expert. I would want to get all 3 gaits comfortable, relaxed and focused before adding in another variable (tack).

*taps fingers impatiently waiting for pictures*

Heather you can add tack whenever I do it pretty quickly

If the walk is good add the trot, work on just getting her to listen at the trot before asking for complicated turn arounds(I know I didn't need to tell you that)

Rather than make another thread I figured I would just add on to this one.

Today was more of the same. She is still wanting to take too many steps when we do lateral yielding. She is anticipating me and trying to start her own lunge circle Backing is wonderful and supple.

Her direction changes are improving. Much smoother.

Going to the right is still the harder side. She wants to stop without being asked and she is also funny taking off in that direction when we change directions.

I added in the "tah-ROT!" word today We did a few successful circles and I could tell that she was like "what? I've never heard that before!" ... we did 4-5 good trot circles going to the left and then I asked for a whoa and rewarded her.

The right side we only got maybe one full circle of trot and then I backed off and began rewarding 3 or 4 strides. I think at the rate she's been improving, she'll be able to 'get' the trot by monday of next week.

LOL pictures I know! I didn't have my photographer out there with me.

The bond is just, SO incredibly different. I didn't think I'd get this from her. EVER. She just seemed so sour, so 'whatever', so...leave me alone. She's changing before my very eyes.

*mushy lovey face*

Oh oh and I wanted to add that she has gone from trying to kick my face off when handling her back feet to lifting them more gently and confidently to have them picked! I can't believe it!

Remember that thread where she just about kicked my boobies off!?

Heather, that is how Trouble was

"She just seemed so sour, so 'whatever', so...leave me alone."

I worked with her on ground work alot and her attitude has changed so much.
