Arrow Lunge Line/Halter Showing

Hello everyone,

I have just recentally purchased a weanling Registered Soild Breed Paint filly. She is eligiable for the futurity lunge line and halter classes as a yearling. I don't know much about what that means but I want to try it. She is a great little filly I just want to know about how I should train her for this or get more info on it. I am also going to (hopefully) be putting her in halter classes this next spring, get her use to the showing world, and get some experience in her. I just would like everyone's opinion on this please. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Jessica

All horses are eligible for halter and lunge line classes. Are you sure she isn't eligible for something else.. like a futurity?

LL futurities can be pretty tough depending on where you are. Same thing with halter futurities. As a SPB, your filly won't be eligible to show in pointed APHA classes against the coloured horses so the futurities are a good way to make some $$ and prove the quality of your horse. It's also a great way to get your young horse out to a few shows before they're under saddle.

Sylvia was shown 3 times in LL and did very well. However, she's very natural and we did not push her hard. She went around slowly with her neck floated out level in front without any help from me. All we really worked on was cleaning up her performance - tidy turns, staying out without pulling on the longe, crisp & clean transitions.

pinkhorse, what kinda of things do you do to get a horse ready for this? I would love to just try it and see what i think. I want to start working on her asap. She does keep her head at a nice level headset with the little ludge we have done. The biggest problem i had with her lundging is she wont keep going...with or without a whip. What do you suggest?

Have you looked at other yearlings you'll be competing against? Which futurity is it? Im pleased to see you taking a solid into the show ring! The classes down here for them are quite decent and usually at least a pointed class, many times 2 points.

I don't know anything about where to find out for the show or any of that. Where do I find out about all this stuff? I have the paper work to sign her up, i just don't want to send it in with all the money until i am sure. I am very green at the showing world expecially this, so any help would be great.

You need to find out what futurity she's eligible for, then pay her up if she hasnt been already. Check that to. Some breeders pay their babies up themselves. If she's only eligible, then I doubt she's paid up... but it never hurts to check.
