Good luck with her. She looks to be a doll!
I had her feet done that day after the photo's where done. How often do you suggested that i have her feet trimmed? This is my first young horse I have ever owned...only work with other peoples two yr olds, not my own. Also what do u mean by typie?

That helps teach them where to carry their heads but you still need to make her have that forward motion and to use her butt. The trainer I have been working with does that alot with younger horses, it allows them to find the spot and you are not forcing it so to speak if that makes any sense.

I would love to see a video of her!!
How does he make them do that? Just with the surcingle. I will get a video asap, just let let everyone see her move.

How do I find out if she is for the breed classes? I know there is something in my paperwork I got with here that says something about the stallion but I didn't understand it. Could you explain?

You need soft reins and a snaffle bit, find where her head is naturally level with her whithers and pull the reins between her front legs and up throught the surcingle and tie at her withers. She will probably not know what to do at first but the idea is to get her moving forward. I have had horses rear, go in circles, back up, everything but to go forward so be patient. The round pen is the best place to do this since you won't have the lungeline on her and with the round shape, she can't put her nose in the corner to avoid you. Once she starts moving forward, she will pull on the bit, fighting it at first but she should figure out that if she drops her head, the pressure of the bit is released and she starts to "give" to the bit. This will help out when you start riding her too. If you can get her to flex both ways and move away from pressure you will have a huge headstart for things under saddle.

Do you need to have a surcingle to do this? or can you "jimmy rig" something like a surcingle? I kinda understand what you mean. Do you have a picture that you could show me on what it would look like?

I have done this without a surcingle too. I will see if I can find one online, I don't have any of my girls doing it.

Hopefully, he's a good farrier and will set the dates to come out and work with her according to how often he thinks it needs to be done, but I would go no longer than 6 weeks between trims unless she's a slow hoof grower.

By "typie" I mean she looks bred true to type and a good example of her breed. It's a good thing, LOL

Thank you very much, I will have to get a hold of a farrier and start getting her trimmed more often. I don't think her hooves are growing that fast but they are not slow either. I know the first trim she had (which was that day) he stopped the surface cracks which is great!! Thank you for the advice and the compliment!!

Yep, that is it. The surcingle just keeps it from rubbing on her more that anything plus it gets her used to being "cinched" up.

I use a simple snaffle bit but most that I do this with are yearlings at least some didn't have it done until they were 2 but that is because I wasn't doing LL with them. Since she is still just a weanling, I wouldn't rush on the bit issue and have a dentist/vet look for wolf teeth first. I also do a ton of ground work stuff as well, lots of moving away from pressure, getting them to yield their hindquarters, front, and even sidepassing away from pressure on their rib area. Lots of flexing on the ground teaches her to give to the pressure and you can do that with just a halter.

I haven't found any videos online yet, but I will keep looking.
