keep up the good work smokypocolena

Glad to hear that you were able to get someone out to look at those poor horses. Sometimes the amount of persistence or insistence that we put forth makes the difference in ending suffering or even in the life or death of another being. It is always the hardest to deal with seeing and then helping in these situations the first time. Unfortunatly there are individuals that are not (for whatever reason) caring for animals properly so reasonable caring Angels like you have to step in. I am praying and cheering for you and those precious horses. Please keep posting to let us know how it goes and if you need any support please let me know I will make calls to rescue agencies or law enforcement anytime with out hesitation. People always think someone else will report abuse, most people usually do not. You are "exceptional" to the rule. Thanks.

I'm sorry, but YES.....that colt is emaciated! Granted, I've seen and dealt with much worse, but it's pretty obvious that he's been severely neglected.

Forget your Animal Control!!! Just forming their mouths to spit out the words "it's out of our hands".....they shouldn't be in the position/business they are in then!!! Go straight to your local news station. Get them to do a story on YOUR colt, with a sub-story on the place you got him from. It's amazing how much publicity can light a fire under AC's rearends!!!

When it comes to situations like this, if I don't get results with ONE request, then I go for the Jugular vain!!! Hit them where it hurts!!!! Make it public and let EVERYONE know! Nobody wants bad publicity!!!!

I'd have concerns keeping that colt with your other horse right away tho. You don't know what diseases, if any, he may have, and the fact that he is wormy......I hope you wormed your other horse at the same time, since they are together?

Good luck, and keep all of us posted on the outcome!

I just moved from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. And Louisiana is HORRABLE with anything involving the lazy officers to get off their behind and do something.

The colt it emaciated, and he would have been further if this kind lady didn't step in. Just because the horse isn't on his death bed, doesn't mean he would not have been a week or two from then.

Habitat for Horses www.habitatforhorses.org

Hope this list helps. I live in Texas and I keep habitat for horses phone number loaded in my cell phone index in case I see cases of neglect while I am out and about. I am not consumed with this activity but have come to learn through experiance that horse starvers try to keep their horses out of public lines of sight so if I see them I report immediatly as it is unlikely I will see them again.

Any word on the starved horses in Louisiana?

Just wondering/worrying about the horses in need of rescue in Louisiana. I live in Texas but have an OTTB thoroughbred that was bred and raced in Louisiana. We rescued/bought him at an auction in Texas and consider the Louisiana horses his 'cousins' hope they are ok.

I think I would keep the horse in a confined area for several weeks. It is a good idea to quarantine new animals especially if they have come from questionable conditions.
Keeping the horse confinded to one small corral/paddock will also let you clean up the worm filled manure and dispose of it instead of having it scattered all thru your pastures.
