do some streches in the saddle while your horse is in walk and halt. touch your toes with your opposite hand! and do a few streches. take away your stirrups and do some walk, trot, canter to work on your mussels. hope this helps!!!!

lil nicky

I put on weight due to a prescribed tablet - in a year I went from 7st 3lb(too thin, 5ft 7ins) to 12st 1lb(sorry in uk work in stones and pounds LOL)

6 weeks ago I came off the tablet and started to go to Weight Watchers - In 5 weeks I have lost 14 pound - that's a stone.

The diet is so versatile, I eat more than ever, but things are cooked different, and lots more fruit and veg.

According to the Weight Watchers programme(which is worked out on points) - my daily points are 20 - you can earn extra points by doing certain excercises, which you can either eat, or put towards your weight loss.

Horse Riding:-

horse riding - walking 15 mins = 1 points
30 mins = 2 points

trotting 15 mins = 1+half points
30 mins = 3 points

galloping 15 mins = 2 points
30 mins = 4 points

If you compare that 30 mins aerobics would earn you 3 points - I would say that just by normal riding you are getting good excercise that is much more enjoyable than a aerobic class

I ride at least 3 times a week, don't gallop for 30 mins(sounds stupid to me - horse and me would be on our knees )

I don't use the points to eat more - I put them towards my weight loss.

I think 14 pound in 5 weeks is pretty good and I feel better applaud

Hope this helps.

Jane

This is wierd

There is a slimming programme on Discovery health at this minute and the woman on the diet wants to ride again.

she has just had a ground pole lesson - she wants to get back into jumping.

The fact file just said that

90 minutes stable work, not just riding, mucking out, grooming can burn upto 830 Calories - we should all be like stick insects

Candygirl- congrats on doing well on your diet!! I did weight watchers after my third child- lost 60lbs rather quickly- and kept it off (4 years later) because I learned a better way to eat through the program (though I haven't had to count points in years now!)

As for excercise- I hadn't ridden in many years- and when I started again- I was amazed at all the muscles I was using. I also do some stretching and stuff while I am warming up my horse. But riding regularly is better excercise than I thought it would be, LOL.

60LBs bow and still off 4 years later applaud Have I seen you in the slimmers magazine LOL

Your are an inspiration!

I only have another 3 and half pounds to reach my 10% - that 10st 12lb. I don't think I want to loose much more after that - Struggled all my life to keep weight on or gain weight - I like having womans bits blushing and my husband is worried I will go tooo far. People say I look better with some weight on my bones - but it's how you feel in yourself, and you can tell by your clothes. To go from a UK size 8 to a 14, is a big jump in a year

I think for my height, about 10 Stone would suit me, not fat, but have all the right curves and bumps in the right places

Want to look fit for my 40th July applaud

I can't remember where I read this, but anyway, I thought it was interesing. Mucking out stalls burns more calories per hour than any other excercise/sport besides rock climbing, which was about 20 more per hour.
