Question Loose Horses

Quite awhile ago 3 horses got loose that are down the street from me. A lady who knows I'm a horse person came to my house to see if I could help. I went down with 3 of my halters and leads. By the time I got there 2 of the horses(the oldest and the youngest) had gone back into their paddock. The middle horse had been trapped in another farm's paddock. He was RUNNING!! Back and forth. I was able to get him to calm down and let me come to him and put a halter on and walk him down the street to his barn. I put all the horses in their stalls and looked them all over. I checked all their legs for heat and looked for any cuts and scrapes. The youngest horse had some scraped on his face and a few on his front legs. All were just scrapes and not bleeding. I went home and called the owners and left them a message about their horses getting loose and that I checked them over and told them about the one horse's scrapes.

Luckily I knew these horses having taken care of them for a week, so I knew their personalities a bit and their ages so I was able to assess if they were ok or not. And I think it did give me an advantage to catching the last horse. And since I knew who the owners were I had their number so I was able to call.

Now what if I help catch some horses that I don't know the owners? I know I would be even more careful and cautious. How else would I go about catching/looking/letting the owners know?

If you KNOW who owns them, just go to their house and tell them what you did. If you DON'T know who owns them, get them in a pen at your house and call your local animal control. That's what I just had to do.
