Looking for HUS ideas..

OK, YES I'm still going to show Dancer Western, but for right now she's actually going better and fully ready to show "A" level Arab in HUS classes.

SO now that I just bought her a lovely Western Show saddle, lol, I'm now on the 'hunt' so to speak for a Hunters saddle, Wide tree a must after a fitting session yesterday and trying to keep the price to no more then $500.00 I can ride in a 17 to 17.5" seat.

Anyone have saddles they'd stay AWAY from? and anyone have saddles they'd LOOK for and I don't mind USED at all ... This is just for flat work class, no jumping so that plays into things to.

Collegiates are nice - you could get used for $500. I'm not sure what you can find used, and for how much, but older Pessoa's are great...I personally like Crosby, Bates, Prestige, umm...what's comfortable for you comes into play as well. For the A - Circuit, and I know some will disagree, but I'd say no Wintec, unless you really really like them. I think you would be better off with a nice, used, leather AP or CC. JMO.

Yah I like Wintec for PRACTICING in but not for the Breed Circuit... I am thinking Colligiate with the changeable gullet if I can find one that I like in the price range I want to spend or maybe an HDR or Crosby (I used to ride over fences in a Crosby many years ago and then a Stuebben and then a cutom jobby, lol) I've been told Dover's 'in house' line is a nice ride, but I have never seen on in person let alone ridden in one

I'm a HUGE Crosby fan I ride Melody in a Surrey, which is basically a Crosby before Crosbies came along. Very "correct", incredibly comfortable, and to last the 25 years it has been around with hardly a scratch, very good quality and durable leather. I like modern day Crosbies too

I'd go for a Crosby - they look nice for the HUS classes, and you can pick up the older PDNs or Sovereigns on Ebay for cheap. Might take a bit of looking to find a wide tree though.

Another one you might look at is the M. Talouse. The demo saddles have been going for $600 on ebay, and lightly used ones for less than that. I've heard great things about their dressage saddle, and I think a few people here have their CC saddles.

The M. Toulouse leather is like BUTTER.. You feel like you're riding on a cloud, almost a bit TOO soft for my preference, but they are certainly very comfy I have heard that the leather is so soft that it breaks down though? I don't know if that's true.

Yeah, I think many of the well-designed "budget" saddles aren't as durable. However, if you're not using the saddle very heavily, it shouldn't be an issue. For that matter, most of the newer saddles just aren't going to wear like iron the way the old Stubbens, Crosby's, etc. do.

Good feedback on the Talouse, I was noticing they look nice and seem to be 'affordable' but wasn't familiar with them. I think you're right, the newer leather isn't tanned in the same process always that was used in years past, so I suspect not as durable.. even my boots seem to wear out earlier then they used to do and it's not like they get used MORE then they used to

Thanks for all of the good input guys!
