Looked at that horse today..thinking about making an offer

I went and looked at that filly today(http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse...orse_id=488126). First of all, the lady told me that this little girl is very low on her priority list. I guess she was like given to her by a boarder or something, and she's had off for two years but now she's trying ot move her. She's out of a TB dam and supposedly she was initially raised by TB owners and because of excessive chain useage, she's a bit head shy.
She was really sweet, but kind of jumpy when we put the saddle on. We then went into the arena, where she "lunged" her. She warned me on the phone that she's a bit crazy when lunged. Turns out lunging means putting on the lunge line, dropping it, and cracking the whip. That filly went NUTS. She was like a little rodeo star. I was like "oh my." I was told that they always "lunge" her before riding, but she has never bucked with a rider. When the lady asked her to "Whoa," she wouldn't and instead kept on going. She asked her like seven times, and finally we trapped her in a corner. I asked her if I could work her a little. At first, I took off the lunge line and walked around in a few circles. She followed me. When she walked away, I asked her trot and made her roll-back off the walls. I did this for awhile until I could walk up to her, no problems, and lead her. I really wanted to keep going until she would come to me, but with time constraints I settled for that.
The lady got on her and told me she felt like she wanted to buck, that it was unlike her, and it was up to me whether I got on or not. I got on her. She rides on your hand which was actually really nice, but I would want to get her to move a little on her own(she was kind of almost too much under your hand). She kept trying to shy away from this one wall, but I made her go to it and walk along it. We trotted, did circles, loped, and I made her do diagonals. She wasn't too hott on standing still afterwards, but she did it.
I really think that she has trust issues, seeing as she wouldn't let the lady catch her in the arena(she's fine to catch in the pasture). I think that this could be worked out with some round pen-like work. Make sense?
On the plus side, she had a really nice roll-back, nice stop, is sweet, beautiful, and rides well(for a green horse). I was thinking that seeing as she is low on her priority list, maybe making an offer of $2000 and asking for a 15 day lease or so. IMaybe not even make an offer but instead ask for a month of free boarding. The place has a lot of amneities that could be useful for her training and I think that the lady might be wise to comply, seeing as this filly is simply being fed but not ridden that much. What do you think; pass her up, offer, what?

Seeing that you know she has a few issues, and got to see her in a "not so hot" state, and you are still interested, I say go for it. If you really like her and think you can work past her trust issues, then I think she really might be worth it.

By the sounds of it, with some proper work, she would probably come around great! I think you should go for it. Let us know what happens!

I think, if you want another project horse she is looking good. I mean you saw her in her raw form I bet and if you feel confident handling her then make them an offer. She is one flashy horse.

She's really flashy! Is she registered? I think $2,000 would be a good offer. Hmm, we did pay $2,000 for our reg'd paint yearling...So it might be a little low...$2,500??

She's double-registered Pinto and APHA. I think that $2000 is kind of low when comparing but then again I will have to spend a lot of time undoing the damage that's been done. It's not like I'm going to be working with a clean slate. She's got issues that need addressing.

You know what you are doing, so I see nothing wrong with you making an offer. If the lady is smart, she will probably take it.
Seeing as you know how to work this mare properly, and have faith in her, you should atleast try to get the owner down on the price.
She is definately a looker!

Keep us informed with your final decision.
