arent u supose to look UP when riding? not looking at the horse? or is there an acception in dressage for it?

The lady you are referring to (looking down) is performing an extended trot. She is looking to see how freely the shoulders are moving and if the horse needs more energy from the hindquarter.

Judging from the double bridle, the rider's BEAUTIFUL classical seat, and the quality of the extension, I would guess her to be riding an Intermediarre I or higher test, in which cases most riders watch the horse through the entire test.

Are you talking about the top pic? Yes you're supposed to look up, but you'll probably catch more dressage riders looking down than any other discipline.

That's weird, I've always been taught that you should feel the horse rather than look at it no matter what level you're riding at.
