Light Salmon to Bright Salmon How Close?**Filly 4am Photos**

My mare is really stretching this out we are at day 355 today. She is kicking one rear foot almost constantly. We have a steady breeze so there are no bugs. Her bag seems a little fuller, flat no crease but no wax or milk. She is sooooo big. I feel so bad for her.

Her vulva has been a pale pink, yesterday we noticed it had changed to a light salmon color now today it is a bright salmon color. Does this tell us anything?

Thanks

She is now dripping milk, still tapping/kicking rear foot, rarely stands still, butt up to post/wall and pushing/rubbing it. She is soooooo friendly today. She has always been a curious mare but now she comes right up to you and wants to be loved on. Especially likes to have rump rubbed/scratched. I have not seen her lay down yet. 11:17 PM EST

A filly born around 4am this morning see last post for photos!!!!

It could mean several things. If she was just laying down, it will deepen the color. If the foal is positioning and pressing it will deepen the color.

But I think you are asking about the color change the signals foaling? lol. If the mare was not just laying down and the foal has already gone through the positioning, then I would keep a close eye on her. *knocks on wood*, when I see that in my mares, they are foaling THAT day/night. Usually within 12 hours.

Jessie,

Thanks for the info. To the best of our knowledge she hadn't been laying down prior to that, (at least for 1/2 hour or so). It sure would be nice if she had it today. It's going to be beautiful out. Breezy and a warm 75.

Will keep updating.

i dunno about color change but I do know my mare did NOT wax at all cause it can easilly fall off. and milking them helps to tell. however doing it is an art some times lol. if you ever milked a cow or goat you know its not too easy. but it squeeze abit into your hand and if its a cloudy almost clear color and its sticky its close. my mare foaled about 2 days after I noticed the stickyness and she had it hours after I seen it darken to a more cloudy like a watered down 50/50 milk.

I HIGHLY recommend going and getting some pool test strips from almost anywhere that carrying pool supplies (Walmart, Target, real pool supply stores, etc.). Milk your mare so you get about a tsp of milk and dilute it will 6 tsp of DISTILLED water (e.g. no minerals added for taste) or really any other 1:6 ratio will do.

Make sure the test strips test for hardness (calcium (Ca) levels) and pH. Dip the test strip in for 15 seconds and the Ca level should be at least 400 and up, 500 and up or more than 500 for most mares. The pH will drop below 7 and then then foaling is usually 6-24 hours away. Between 7 and 8, foaling is 12-72 hours away. Once below 7, make sure the mare is supervised! And, keep in mind, the milk can change from above 7 to below 7 in as little as 2 hours (as it did with my mare).

Good luck!

Update: We have wax/milk.

I'm not brave enough to milk her (LOL). She can be a bit touchy. My teen girls are watching her closely.

My guess is that it will be tonight!

Those are all the signs that Penny exhibited before partuition. For details, go here, starting at post #85. Literally every single detail up till about an hour before birth, which is when my computer died.
