Let's talk about... our horses!

=D

I was surprised to find that there was no thread dedicated to talking about the 4 legged friends that we know and love!
I want to hear about horses that you own, lease, or have the pleasure of riding.
So.... favourite horses... GO!

So.... I own 5 lovely animals.

Rocinante (Rosie) is my show mare. She's a grey Clyde/TB X, and I love her to death. She likes apples, hacking, and winning at horse shows. Dislikes girths, spurs, and circling left. Hehe.

Blubird Lane's Breim is a Fjord horse. He's a slow eater and let's the miniature steal his food, but he's a sweetheart who just wants to crawl into your pocket.

Bluebird Lane's Ekko is a Fjord large who (like his brother) makes up for what he lacks in brains with a big heart.

Both Fjords are supergreen. I'm working on them when I have time.... but it's dark by the time I'm done with Rosie.

Nestor Hollywood (Rusty) is my roan miniature. He's a nasty little thing... he was just recently gelded, and we're still waiting for him to realize it.

Lilly (show name undecided...) is my sister's medium show pony... bay QH/Welsh X. We're still feeling her out... not sure what to expect!

I have three on my property but I only own one. His show name is Big Leaguer Ike but I call him Itchy cause of what he looked like when we brought him home (In April he was underweight and malnourished). He looked like he had mange and his personality reminded me of the wiener dog from "All Dogs Go to Heaven" (named Itchy). He is four year old gelding registered QH started in reining but was too slow so the lady sold him to me for a Western Pleasure horse. He is like my Siggy says Firey red sorrel but no speed. He is a slow eater and is at the bottom of the "Food Chain" but for what he lacks in brains (haha thats another story) he makes up in heart.
The top is when we brought him home and the bottom is a few months ago

Jade- my first horse was a gelding that we leased, to be that "great horse to learn on." And he was. Until we tried to put spurs on. And we quickly found out that nobody rides him with spurs. Aha. Same idea in the hack classes... but he did teach me a lot. I learned how to hold on tight. =D

Horsegal, you've done a great job with Itchy!! He looks 100x better than he used to- a different horse. He's really lucky to have found you.
I love a happy ending. =)

oooo-ooo-ooo-... Can I Go next????

I have three, but Right now I'll brag on Harley. He's my 16H National Show Horse. He's a grandson of the great Bask. Harley is Tall, Dark, and Handsome!!! And he knows it!!!!

I got him for a real bargain 4 years ago. Didn't do much with him til about 18 months ag when I tried to sell him. He was way too much horse for everyone who came out to try him, even though he was advertised as needing a confident, expereinced rider. So, I decided he needed more consistent work from me to be sellable. And I did sell him.... to MYSELF!!! I just Love him. He's got the best movement, a quirky attitude, and after everything, he's a decent trail horse - at least, he's OK on the trails we normally ride - LOL. It's a whole new thing when we try out a NEW trail.

Here he is in all his glory (with my other horse - Billy- next to him):

This is a really good idea for a thread logicaldaydream!
I currently own 8 horses.
Brandy: She is our very aged tennesse walking horse mare. She has not been shown or really ridden and has really matured in her old age. Though she can be quite a witch, i just can't imagine what it would be without her.
Sonny: He is my 4 year old haflinger gelding. At the current moment he's won grand champion gelding at our local farm show and is green broke to ride (though last fall i had quite a nasty fall off of him when he spooked and took off). Soon we hope to get him started under harness. He's certainly got a huge heart and he's my baby!
Nikolai: he is our 5 year old haflinger gelding who is full brothers to Sonny. He really doesn't like showing and would much rather be in the stall munching on hay! But he's also a big sweety and i love his draftiness!
Daisey: She is our 6 year old haflinger mare that we got just last fall. She currently is helping me get back into riding and she also hitches. In fact this year she got 2 firsts in men's and ladies cart and i got 4th out of 10 youths in my first hitch class! She is definetly opinionated but is very lovey.
Keeno: My 5 year old dapple grey stallion mini. We got him when he was just a baby and i've raised him since. He is very well behaved despite the fact of mares being around. He does hitch some and he's a big mommy's boy.
Mr. Friendly: He is our 5 year old pinto stallion mini. He absolutely loves people! He's such a big sweety. But he does have one big weakness...horse clippers : P
Charlie horse: He is our 5 year old palominio stallion mini. He has quite an attitude for a little guy. He is a really nice mini but when he doesn't want to do something, by gosh he will try his best not to do it.
Jimminy Cricket: He is our 5 year old bay stallion mini. He's so stubborn and is very will to express how he feels. He acts like a big dog, if you go into the pasture and sit down he tries to climb into your lap!

And i'm super excited to read about other people's horses!

I lease a very pale palomino paint, named Lily. Lily is 15.2 hh and is the daughter or a world champion horse. She was actually bred for western, but I ride her English and she is doing wonderfully with the English headset. I did my first horse show on her (I had done other shows on a different horse) and it was her first in like four years and she did amazing! We got 3 firsts, 1 third and 1 fouth!!! ))) We are doing another next month! When I first started jumping her, she plowed through those jumps, but like they say, practice makes perfect and she's doing great! )
