Post Leg Splints and Bell Boots

Today I was at Tracor Supply spending a gift certificate that I had gotten for Christmas. I saw and looked at the leg slpints and bell boots. I was tempted to but them just because I could see how handsome they would look on Bugsy. blushing So I was wandering, what are they really ment for. I thought they were for some speed events. I had seen them worn in them. Thanks

I use both splint boots and bell boots on several of my horses. bell boots are to protect horses that over reach with their hind legs. this over reaching causes the horse to step on his front shoes and pull them off.
split boots I use while jumping (i use polos when hacking)the more protection I can give my guys the better, all it takes is one bad landing.
hope that helps

Well, it depends on your horse and what you are doing whether you really need them or not. It certainly does no harm at all to use them even if you don't "really" need to, however.

Bells are used for horses that clip the backs of their front feet with the hind feet. Bells are also used on horses with elongated shoes to keep him from pulling them off.

There are MANY types of protective leg boots - splints being only one of them. They are good for just all-around protection no matter if you're jumping, hacking or barrel racing.

If you do purchase them, however, make sure you know how to put them on properly or you can cause a bowed tendon. Bows take a very loooooong time to heal so its best to put the boots on correctly and avoid the problem.

If we can help further, please let us know
