Leg Fungus?

For a while my gelding has had this stuff on his leg that doesn't come off any suggestions on how to get it off and has anyone seen this before.

Is it on the front legs or back legs? Does it come off at all? Is it sore to the touch?

It looks like rain rot to me.. or maybe the stuff that gets on their back legs when they pee. I would use some micro tech shampoo on it everyday.. then dry off throughly with a towel.

My horses get the same thing all the time, especially in the summer months, but I definitely agree with BettyBootsy that seems like your best bet. I only use Listerine and it works magnificantly so I can only imagine what that combination would do.

You can use any kind of topical fungal washes that are sold in your tack stores. After washing, make sure that the area is completely dry!!! Good luck~

I had something going on that look a lot like that. I was at the Vets so I asked about it and she took a good look and told me that it was a build up of the oil and gunk from the fly spray I was usaing. It was kinda like Craddle Cap that babies get. I got it saturated in M-T-G and then combed it out lightly and all was good.

My horse wasn't sore and when the vet picked it off a bit there was not scab or raw skin underneath so it illimated it being a fungus or something of more significance.

Mine get that from the pond wading they do ... I hose it twice daily and use a stiff brush to rub it down and then at night I put MTG on it or Betadine stuff
