Leaving both paddocks open...good or bad idea?

My horses get along now but of course I have a dominant one. I was wondering if it would be a safe practice to leave both gates open to their little paddocks. They both lead to a bigger dirt lot but I was always afraid that Dubie would walk inot Moseys stall and get his booty kicked by Mosey.

I have seen some horses that their gates are left open and no problems are caused.

You could try it for a day or so and see how its works. If it works then keep it that way but if it doesnt go back to the old way.

Try it out. If the horses understand where they fit in the totem pole, then there really should be little to no trouble.

I went down there earlier and opened Moseys (dominant) side and he came in. Dubie was right behind him (young! DAH!)and followed him like he belonged there. Well, Mosey turned around and pinned his ears, stretched toward him, mouth open (never really bites, just warns)and Dubie turned and ran out real fast.

The only problem I can forsee is the gate either opens in or out and don't open all the way to rest against the panels. So the gate sticks out which can be a hazard if Dubie gets scared and runs into one.
