I know this is not about a horse that passed, but I too have played the "what if or if only" game. 16 years ago my youngest son (he was 2 at the time) drowned, it was a terrible accident. I played the if only and what if game for years, it did not make me a better mother or even a better person. You can only accept the blame for what you did, not what someone else did. Just remember they are in a place where no one can hurt them ever again, where the grass is always green and friends are always near. |

This wasnt an accident though... This was a series of choices made, by their owner and various others, me included. Cyndi, I am very sorry for the loss of your son...

It may be a variety of choices made, but you can't change them as much as you like to. As said earlier by someone, if it wasn't Fyre then it would have been another horse. You did all you could and by going over it like you are now, then someone is paying and it's you (sorry i don't mean to come across harsh or anything I do know where you are coming from.) You can't beat yourself up for choices other people made that affected your ability to do your best. You didn't do this to these beautiful horses, you tried to save them, you did all you could. Remember and honour their memories but know you did all you could. |

You can't blame yourself for anything that happened. You tried, and did the best you could do for what you felt was needed at the time. Nobody can ask or expect anymore than that. I rescue horses and have had to look many in the eyes an not get them. They are now dead. I have to live with that, because some of them I could of gotton. I can't let the ones I have suffer because I took on too much. What would be the point of having them if I did? We can't possibly save them all, and unfortunately, some people don't care enough about them, to let their "end" be a peaceful one. They have to live with themselves......we don't have to live with them. If they can justify their actions and decisions in their own minds, for how they handled the situation.......they are only kidding themselves, and that my friend will eventually come back to bite them in the rear at the worst possible time in their lives. What goes around ALWAYS comes back around! Maybe not in the same manner that they put it out there, but it will come back in some fashion and make them miserable. That much, you can be sure of. So, continue your life doing as you do with the obvious big heart you have. You will be rewarded for your kindness and efforts towards those who cannot speak.

sweety, you can place blame, but that does not make someone accept the responsibility. One does not have to keep "pointing fingers" until someone goes I GIVE... that is now how the game is played nor will it allow others to rest when someone who was not directly at fault steps up and takes the punishment. She will get hers in due time. May not help you sleep at night, but one day, she will have to answer to one higher than us all to her convictions. Sleep a bit more comfortable knowing she will have to answer one day......

Problem is we can't control the world and we sure can't save them all...no matter if they are down the road, or next door. There are sometimes unforseen things that can cause people to let the horses go-we can just hope people up and let someone take them before things get to bad. Then we have brainiacs who just decide to not tend their horses anymore-the fun they had once in getting them is just over now. Horses are not like cross stitch-you can't have the fun with them, tire of them, shove them in a drawer until a later date. Some people... Sometimes it is hard to place the responsibilities of the horse also. How about when you have a horse on your property-that isn't yours, or perhaps you sold it to another owner. The owner has paid for the horse, but isn't keeping up on the feed bill-or the feet bill or any bill. Who does that responsibility fall on then? Sure, the landowner is the caretaker-but what if the moneys are not coming in to tend that horse? Then the next thing you know the owner gets the horse off of your property and saying how badly the animal looks and it is your fault. You gotta luv'em! LOL! You can't hold yourself ill over what has happened. To me, the fact you feel for these horses that have passed and it is haunting you shows the feelings you have for them. Fact is, you are probably showing them more kindess with them having passed, then they ever got while in the owners care. I am sure they look upon you with kindness-from where ever they may be.
