You rarely see a larger eventer. Not only does the horse have to be fit, so does the rider. An unfit larger rider bouncing around is going to have bad effects on the horse and the ability for it do XC.
Not ture, I know a dressage rider that probably weighs 250 pounds and rides a 15.2 pound arab. She has won ALOT of blue ribbons. Showing isent all about looking good, just cause your thinner doesent mean your going to win alot of awards if you cant handle your horse properly.

"LARGER" That doesent mean we are obese. Im like 30 pounds overweight and you dont see me "bounce around".

Thats pretty rude, Just cause we are over weight we are terrible riders.

Not to mention super skinny riders look terrible in the saddle...

yes, but i would rather not carry any kilos at all! so should we stop riding all together because this applies to us it will make our horses happier too?

I never said bigger riders were bad riders....geez talk about taking things out of context.

I'm just giving my opinion, tough if people dont like it. I dont think larger riders on horses not suited to them arent doing the horse's long term soundness any favours.
And yes some of them DO look terrible in the saddle.
So can skinny riders look terrible, but this discussion is on overweight people riding, not about skinny riders.

Very large riders tend to look sloppy, regardless of how well they ride. Call me rude, but it's extrememly hard for a judge to look at the horse when the rider has extra bits flopping around.....big chested riders included!

If you have problems losing weight, go see your doctor. Some dramatic lifestyle changes have to be made, or there's an underlying problem there somewhere.

I'm not a stick, I have to eat healthy and exercise so I dont gain weight. It's tough not being able to lose weight but where there's a will theres a way.
Your horse will be much sounder in the long run.
You are so rude. I have seen stick-thin people look absolutely HORRIBLE on their horse, and a bigger rider look like harmony - a perfect pair working together in synch.

Have some tact.

"They Look sloppy and Bounce around "

No one should bounce around in the saddle. That is basically saying we are bad riders.

I agree. This thread was not about bashing "larger" riders. It was about trying to help some people who don't have the same problems some of us have understand that just because we aren't stick-thin it does mean we are lazy and sit around stuffing our faces or something, and then just flop on the back of a horse. A lot of us battle our weight daily and try our hardest to be caring, well-balanced riders even though we are not the "ideal".

Regardless of what you might think, some of us just can't be the "ideal" rider as far as body weight and build goes. That does not mean we "flop around" or are poor riders; a lot of times, we work a lot harder than others to get better because we are aware of our weight and want to make it as easy on the horse as possible, which means we have to develop balance and harmony to an even greater degree than slimmer riders.
