![]() | lame horse Hello I am new here but I have a question. I have an older horse and he injuried his ankle last sumer in fl. He healed on his own after a few weeks and seemed fined. I brought him home to new york this fall and he was doing great. Then this week a noticed he was favoring that ankle or fetlock jiont again. My question what kind of supplements doing any of you recomend for this. I also would appreciate any comments you have. I believe he probably has has tendon damage there. He is kept outside in his pasture and it has been nasty out there latley. |

It might just be some arthritis, totally unrelated to the previous injury, or it might be an injury to something like a collateral ligament that never fully healed and he has tweaked again, or something totally new and unrelated to anything. Oh, and welcome!

| Senior Member+ | Theres alot of possiblities of different issues to just ignore so my best advice would be get an xray and ultrasound there not that costly and go from there on how to treat. Until then 2 grams of bute, small dose of Dex depending on the size of your horse for swelling and dmso with some poultice on top of the dmso and leave it over nite then hose in the am pounding it for a good 15 min daily. Next level joint supplement wouldn't hurt but it takes a good 30 days before ya see results. Gound flaxseed and MSM together also work great as an anti imflamatory. Good luck and vet would be your best bet. |

| Senior Member+ | I have to strongly caution about any application of Dex without the vet already having been there, unless you absolutely know what you're doing. Dex is a steriod, and if the horse is metabolic (chronically or acutely) then this could induce full blown laminitis. What this still boils down to is - call your vet.
