| Senior Member+  | Labor Question How long does is usually take for a mare to go into labor after the inside of her vagina starts turning a streaky crimson color? I noticed that it was turning this color this morning. Moondust has had a full udder for the past two weeks now. I haven't been messing with them a whole lot because I don't want to waste colostrum, but I have been able to express colostrum out of them for the past 3 days. Her whole croup and tail head are jello like and she is stamping her feet kinda frequently. Is it time for me to camp out in the paddock tonight?

| Senior Member+  | Well....there is no sure way to know...especially with a maiden (she is a maiden, right?). I would say checking on her at least every 2 hrs if not every hour would be a good idea. As far as the redness...that can come and go. If you express milk what color is it? Any wax?

| Senior Member  | I always go by the wax. Some get wax and it drops off and then the owners think they never wax up. Thats what I look for every night. You gets to know them teats real good. I cant wait to see this baby!

| Senior Member+  | The inside of the vagina can go a bit reddish on and off...but if it is very red/crimson and stays that way, then it is normally within 24 hrs. Is the vagina all wrinkly, or a bit longer, swollen and very smooth. |
