Know any Horse/horseback games?

Hi all. We are trying to organize a Christmas party at the barn and we don't have many boarders or students so we don't want to have a show, but play games instead. Keeping in mind the riders are of ALL levels (beginner to advanced) and we would also like to get non-rider parents/family memebers and friends involved in the fun - does anyone know of some games we could play?

I've thought of musical stalls, ride-a-buck and a costume class (no dunking for apples or that sort of thing - its way to cold here for that). And as I said I would like to get non-horse people involved as well, so I thought like a Simon Says type game where I shout out, touch the withers - and watch them interpret where they think the whithers would be...

Any suggestions would be great!

The egg in spoon race is always fun, you could have the non horse peple mimic the horse's gaits and compete against the riders, I can't think of anything els right now.

An adult leadline class (where the kids lead their parents), seen this and it was so cute! Also we did one this summer where there was a rider and a leader, the rider was blindfolded and had to be led down and drop a nerf ball in a laundry basket, being guided by the leader.

They all sound good and I hadn't heard of most of them. We use to do a pony plop. You guessed it. string on the ground to map out a grid and they had to bet which square the grazing ponies would... well... "plop". Works if you have a lot of ponies or horses that are standing waiting to be used or ridden.

We play a "horse ropin" game sometimes. It's a relay game with two teams. We get two bales of straw, two stick horses, two smaller hula hoops and some rope. We stick one horse in each bale. Then we take hula hoops and tie rope the rope to it. Then make a line for the two teams to stand behind. The player then twirls the hula hoop and trys to rope the horsey. The first group to have everyone rope the horse the fastest...wins.

You don't have to use the rope. You could just throw the hula hoop like horse shoes depending on the age of the contestents.

You can also set up a set of bales like the pole bending pattern or barrel pattern and have the kids race through it riding their stick ponies like a relay also or you could time them and the fastest time wins.

I threw my daughter a "Girls Ranch" birthday party and these were some of the games they played while I gave individual kids pony rides. It was a huge success! Hope this helps!
