Kintas gunna get a little bit of an eye opener..

So I found out that Kintas been causing some troubles at the new barn. And that apparently she did at the old barn as well.

Shes not respecting other people. And now that shes been off a work out routine, and she seems to get worse when not working.

Shes running people over in the stall. It gets the worst at feeding time (She used to be EXTREAMLY bad at feeding time, but she did get better)

Shes gotten loose a few times on the property because when people were going into her stall to clean it, she would mow them over and get out.

When walking her, she tried to walk ahead/rush. The lady looking after her is correcting her when shes doing this, but other people are getting nervouse to handle her.

I really had NO idea I was compleltly shocked when i heard this yesterday. I wish someone would of told me how shes acting! I feel embarassed to have a horse like this.

So last night at dinner time, i decided to see for myself. Well did i ever get to see. I walked into her stall while she was eating and kicked her out into her paddock. I stood in the door and she was being really pushy to try and get in. So i made her back up fast. She kept being pushy, then she was still for a minute. Someone behind me said something so i turned my head to answer them. And BOOM. She ran me over to get to her food. Well I lost it, and kicked her behind sooooooo hard it hurt my foot. Made her GET OUT in the paddock again to stand there. Once again she came running at me so I booted her in the chest, but she still got by. So i got after her again and got her out in the paddock. Every step forward she took to me i made her back up many more. Finaly she stood on the other side of the paddock and i was by the door. I was able to back up into the stall and walk around and she didnt move a muscle. After about a 10-15 min wait, i let her come back in. We did a few more times with me telling her to get out and she did. And stayed.

So im going to be practicing this ALOT with her. As well as some other excersises to get her to behave again. I will be bringing a whip with me now to help.

Im just very dissapointed that my other barn didnt tell me that kinta was so pushy in her stall. I knew she was a bit with me, but I corrected it and she was hardly bad with me. But the other lady and kids let kinta walk all over them so she KNEW she could get away with it.

Its just very embarrasing to be at a new barn and haveing her act like this

Got to love it when the crazies take advantage!

I'm just popping in to give a suggestion. When your working with her carry a lead rope instead of a whip. If she goes to take a move towards you twirl it in your hand until it makes the WHRRRR sound ( ) More than likely she'll back off. If she comes to wards you flick it at her side. if need be smack her with the end of it.

I find it easier to work with than carrying a crop as its more flexiable and the horse just knows your coming for THEM..but as soon as they see the crop their reflex is to be nice.

I also like to use it when I'm going to get Athena and the other mares are being bossy/pushy. (I cleared it with my BO as all the mares are her horses)

Good luck!

Right now, i need a quck reaction from her, with the way she starts out, i highly doubt a lead rope will do it right now. Once she gets better, then i'll start just using a lead, or voice cues ect. But for now, i really want her to know i mean business.

you'd be surprised if you do it like if your snapping a towel at someone.

BUT you know your horse better than I do.

I recommend carrying a lunge whip. Oh, and here is one of my favorite Aussie training videos. I hope this helps!

Don't feel bad, Tara. If the BO never let you knew, the only thing you knew was what you saw, and alot of times horses will (hopefully!) behave better for their owners than barn workers.

I was at a barn for 3 months (of course, 3 months ) that I had to leave because the BO wouldn't split Starlite and a TB mare up, they were fighting viciously, I said I couldn't go get her...it was too risky. I know that isn't very "horse person like" but this mare would walk right up Starlite's a** and Starlite must love me a WHOLE lot to not kick her while walking next to me. It would have been fine the mare minded her own business but she taunted Starlite, and no I'm not denying Starlite's a b****...she is! LOL

Anyway, so the BO was like "if you come when we're here, we can get her for you" so I did one day, it took her like 10-15 minutes to catch her, she ran all over the paddock (she would usually just come up to me or stand there until I got her) and I asked if she usually does that and the BO said she always has. I never knew and that was our last week at that barn. Though there wasn't much I could do to fix it, Starlite's first impression of the BO was a nice slap so I can't say I blame her as Starlite's extremely sensitive...but still the BO never told me, if she did I could have come and brought her in when she needed to be or something.

Okay really I'm sorry for the essay But you can't do anything until you KNOW ABOUT IT. So now you know and are working on it, quite a few other people would just let their horses push people around and not care. I don't think anyone around here would try to fix this problem you have with Kinta, but YOU are. So don't feel bad! Whew...didn't think that would be so long. Oops

sounds like you did fine handling her!

Im going to reccomend a long dressage whip or a stock pole when working with her..she sounds like shes gotten "abit big for her britches"

Good for you wanting to remedy the problem!

So i did some ground work with her today. She was awesome. But as soon as i went into a paddock with her and put some hay in it, she got stupid. She got pushy, i made her go away, and she started bucking and ******** out/turning her bum at me. So we had another disagreement till she settled down
