Unhappy kicked

when i went out to feed my horses today, my yearling, Smores, was lying down, while the others were eating. i walked over to see why, and he was breathing a bit funny. i couldnt figure out why... then i pushed on his neck a little to see if i could get him to move, and he lied down flat, rather than curled up like he would have been if he were sleeping, and i could see a lump at the base of his neck. and i mean a big lump. it seems, that my poor baby tried to eat some hay (either last night or this morning) beside our two year old, and got kicked. he looked so sad. anyways, we called the vet office, but the vet we got to talk to was the vet we really don't like, and he said to put an ice pack on, but that wasnt an option, so he said just to leave it until tomorrow, and if it was still bad tomorrow some one would have to come see it...

why isn't ice an option?? I would run the hose on it 10-15 minutes and then take him in barn out of air until he was dry..

Oh sweetie I am so sorry, poor youngster took it well. I feel he will throw it off, I had many kicked, long as it does not abcess keep an eye for that. No cuts so that is good for now. Ice should help him feel better, good luck.....

its not so much the finding of the ice pack thats difficult... its the part about attaching it to him.
