Kickawesome show today-- VIDEO of Native Costume! (and pics too)

Jezzie and I had a crazyamazing time at the West Michigan Arab Horse Association Community Show today. We rode 5 classes, placed OK in three, but all of our rides were pretty solid and a huge improvement over last year's shows.

I freakin love Arab Native Costume. It is just way too much fun, the energy is so overpowering. At this particular series they always play the song "Desert Rose" by Sting during the costume class, which just adds to the energy and atmosphere. and My sister got some great video and pics.

We took fifth out of 9. We could have had a better showing if I would have rated her more, coming down to a canter from the hand gallop. I didn't want to fight OR break, but I should have ridden that more assertively. Oh well. It was fun anyway.

Today we also had our debut in Hunter Pleasure (last season we showed saddleseat). We did OK. I definitely came home with some things to work on but overall I'm really pleased with each ride we put in. We had some issues in our earlier classes but managed to work through them pretty well
so that the later ones were even better.

I am fairly proud of my hunter attire. It's not that great but there's a story. I really don't have the money at the moment to buy a new show outfit. The shirt is from Goodwill. It's a men's shirt that i altered to fit me, and used the extra material to make the collar. The boots are like-new, I got them on e-Bay for $20. The coat is also from Goodwill. It was a Mens' blazer before I got my hands on it. My friend was going to send me a jacket this week, but she was unable to make it to the post office. So on Friday I found out I had no coat. Went to Goodwill, got the jacket for $5, and stayed up sewing on it until 4 AM this morning. It took some major reconstruction, and it's definitely not perfect, but I think it turned out OK, considering the circumstances.

Here are some photos of various of our Hunter classes--we did eq, hunter pleasure, EP junior horse, and Championship (where we placed 6th! not bad!)

Jezzie being a little pill

SOme OK trot -- but could i post any farther out of the saddle?! lol...

This is what Jezzie does between classes...

Oh I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Jezzie as a hunter!

And oh my gosh I am so jealous of your native costume... I have always wanted to do that.

You did great. It is a serious adjustment to go from saddle seat to hunter. I still post to high in the hunter classes, and almost always get taken down.

Congratulations! I would have never known that you took stuff from goodwill and altered it to make it work for hunter under saddle! You two looked great!

I love goodwill shops. I bought chicks outfit for showing Dizzy in halter at the western club shows there. Cost me all of $6 and didn't look bad.

Congrats on getting out there and having fun. I love Jez.

Well thank you. I'm still on the fence about Jezzie the hunter. Watching the saddleseat classes today instead of riding them was hard But I do think for now hunters is going to be a good discipline for us. But I also know that if I really wanted, I could work Jezzie up to an OK local SS horse...it would just take a lot more time and effort than I have to spare right now So we'll have some fun with hunters for now and see what happens in the future.

As for the costume...it's positively the most fun ride ever I hope you get the chance to do it someday. I made my costume for about $200, so I saved a LOT over what it would have cost to buy one--I could never afford a "Real" one!

yeah....ugh...hopefully it will help when I get back into dressage lessons. I've had to take off for a few months because of budget and schedule, but I can't wait to get someone else's eyes on my riding again.

WOAH. Seriously NOT BAD for what, five rides as a hunter? If that many? AWESOME PICTURES! I so with I could have been there though! Next month maybe, the June WMAHA show is on the 28th, right? I'm trying to arrange for a truck/trailer so Mel and I can get up there and kick some butt in the PB hunter classes - I'll leave you two to clean up in the HA/AA hunters

I love how you didn't mention how your $5 goodwill coat was necessary only because I screwed up getting your hunt jacket up to you
