So sorry for your loss, R.I.P. little Zeke....

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

The thing that bums me out the most is that I was at work so I didn't find out until 5 in the afternoon. He had already been gone for quite a few hours. I don't think it would of made a difference if I had been here and had found him much earlier. Darla had stayed nearby and kept calling for him to come with her. I can just imagine how devistated she was to lose him after I thought about how I acted. If elephants can feel remorse at losing family members, why can't horses. This is only Darla's second foal and was the better of the two. You could just tell there was something special about Zeke. He was also his sire's second as well.

No marks on him. I'll be flat honest we have a few speculative ideas of why he died, but no guarantee's. The fact that it is done and over with means there is nothing I can do now. However I checked him all out and found nothing. No messes. No spots, no nicks, cuts, scrapes. Possibly could of been his tail, although I checked it daily to make sure it was clean. If he had gotten infection I would of thought he would of showed signs at least by the night before. He was healthy and trotting around the night before. Infact the last time I saw him was at 10pm when I put him and the rest of the horses back in the pasture for the night. I let my hoses graze the lawn. So it's possible he nibbled on something he shouldn't. Or he could of had something internally wrong that I definately could not of controlled. Heart attack or something like that. That's just the rough part is the not knowing the real answer of why. Its hard to lose one of your kids.

I love my horses and I think they could tell I was upset because they all kept hovering around me as I walked up out of the pasture. Thank you everyone for your kind words. It means a lot. I'll post some of the new photo's of Zeke later today when I get out of work.

I am so very sorry. Sometimes there is just no good answer why.
