How is it the same thing as alfalfa pellets?

I don't know the price of our bagged forage off the top of my head. But I do know that the last one I checked on (definately not the cheapest representative, but the only one I have committed to memory) was $16.

The alfalfa pellets will likely be cheaper and provide more calories/lb. The horse will also be able to eat more in a shorter amount of time and with less of a 'fill' factor.

-personally that is why I'd want cubes..because they would offer more of a fill factor and they would take more time to eat.......those pellets can get scarfed down pretty fast then the horse is done....feeling a lack of satisfaction....time to look for something else to do, chew on the wood of the stall or fence, weave, pace.....of course they have to be provided with time to eat it...so I guess it depends on the situation...does the horse come in at night to eat...do they come in to eat and get sent back out at night..does the horse have a pan the cubes can be put in and they can eat at their leisure. cubes are fed pound for pound of regular forage...I don't know, are pellets fed that way as well?

I realize it's not included here in this thread, but the point with the horses in question is that they need to gain weight, intake more calories, etc... They have plenty of hay to eat (free choice) so the issues you've mentioned are not an issue. Though they are excellent points as to why chopped forage or forage cubes are preferable to pellets in terms of forage replacement.
