Question Kensington blankets: what does 600 x 1200 denier mean?

The information on the Kensington turnouts says they are "600 by 1200 Denier Ripstop Outer Shell" ...what does this mean?

    I know 1200 is a stronger denier than 600 -- but what does 600 x 1200 mean??

    Opinions on the Kensington turnouts?

I wonder if the weave is twice as dense in one direction over the weave perpendicular to it?

That is very confusing! I too was thinking maybe 600 on inside, 1200 on outside. But that's an unusual way of listing that.

I just looked it up and it's not inner/outer. Here's one wording I found for it...

    Made of a 600 x 1200 Denier Ripstop
outer shell for flexibility and strength.
I guess vertical is one and horizontal is the other. Perhaps a cheaper way of getting a higher denier blanket? It won't be as strong as a 1200 denier, but stronger than a 600. I don't know?! For the very high (imo) price of these sheets/blankets, I'd expect to get a true 1200 (or higher) denier!

The one I quoted from above is a rain sheet. Now, it does have an 80 gram liner so not 'just' a sheet. But still. It's $179.99. And not even 1200 denier? The exact same in 120 gram fill is $229.99! Those are Roustabouts.

The Supermesh are 1000 x 1200 denier and jump up to $300.
