Keeping the black...black?

So as most of you know i have a black and white paint. Ill be showing in June. Im starting to keep her in her stall all day due to the sun being blazing hot. I really dont like doing that due to the fact she is always wanting to run. Is there anything else i could do to keep the black black and not red other than keeping her put up?

Also she still has a witer coat pretty good. I have used a curry comb on her everyday and even a slick block. Anything i can do about that?

Thanks, Jacob

woops, this was supposed to go in the grooming forum. my bad

when my appy slicked off real slow like that, we were able to have him tube wormed, and within 3 days afetr, he had shed just baout his entire winter coat. since they don't tube worm anymore, maybe find the wormer that's the equivelent to tube worming and administer that to her. i know they also have some things you can add to her black coloration and it will keep her dark color. i may be wrong,LOL, but this is just my advice form what i have seen people do.

you can put something like afly sheet on your horse...they are breathable and stops discolouration!!!! also with the winter coat...... lots of elbow greace..if your horse has had a bad winter they tend to hang onto their coats.....try a shedding block as this will get out hair that brushes etc cant

I feed my gelding paprika (I think a tablespoon; cant remember what the spoon size is in his bucket right now) with his morning and night feed. It keeps the black black and the white white. I think some people feed black sunflower seeds (crushed) but I'm not sure on that.

I have 3 blacks and the Paprika didn't seem to do much for me. I bought tons of it last year. They faded to brown anyway.

That Cheval Black as Knight supp- i called the co to see what they had in it- they didnt want to tell me so i told them i ihad a horse that was highly allergic to some things and i needed to know what the main ingre. were- its mostly Source- Paprika-flax oil and soybean meal- the rest is just filler. I use that now- I still use the sunshield spray(uv protector) and they stay black-really black.
