Keeping black horses black...

I want to try as hard as possible for my horse NOT to become sunbleached this year. Does anyone have any good tips or supplements or anything that helps a black horse keep their color in the sun? I use both QuikBlack and Oster's black shampoo when I bathe, but I want a little more than just a color enhancing shampoo.. Anyone?

I keep them in during the day, and turn them out at night, to keep coats from getting sun bleached....Cathy

I have never tried this but I hear feeding 1 Tbs paprika daily helps avoid getting sunbleached. Paprika is the main ingredient in those Black as Night products. I think that is what the product is called ... anyway

While I do not own a black horse I have been recently hearing from several freinds of mine who are very satisfied with their horse's coats after using Cheval International's Black-As-Knight & Black Horse Henna for several months.

Yep. Like everyone has said. Black-as-Night. We used it on our black breeding studs at our old barn and it kept them well, black as night.

We do this at our barn too. Its a really good idea.
During the way its way to hot anyways and the flies are absolutely disgusting.

Another idea is to get a fly sheet with UV protection.
My friend also has this sunscreen spray on her dark colour horse.
My other friend also feeds her black horse this supplement which makes them black and is an all natural supplement with no side effects or something.

So lots of ways to do it...

Ask Cyn what she does with her new black beauty... I think she uses a UV sheet though...

I know that Paprika will test positive through USEF. So I wont even chance doing that..

Has anyone ever heard of using black oil sunflower seeds?
