Keep and eye on your horses...and people.

A girl my aunt goes to church with....(long story short, she begged me) used to take lessons, but her old barn closed down.

She had been riding my gelding, espescially now that I can't for about 5 months..I'm technically not supposed to be going to the barn, but something told me to yesterday.

I've seen this girl ride, and care for my horse in a very nice way, so I was not worried..

I went out to see him and she was riding, and his neck was flexed strangely...something wasn't right.

I made her stop, and went to check the bit, as I have a twisted loose ring, and a smooth one..I figured maybe she'd grabbed the wrong one.

When I opened his mouth it was blood red...not bleeding, blistered.

When asked she said finally that she had put bleach in his mouth to make him give more the pressure. Said he deserved it? So keep an eye on your horses..

I had him vet checked and he will be fine, but needless to say he will be getting a nice long break from riding. She has been kicked to the curb.

He's fine...he still loves me, stupid as I was. I went out today (no-no...lol..my doctor wll be furious...) and he put his head in my lap as he was laying down.

He knows how to open his mouth WIDE on command now too...which comes in handy, so I can check it.

I hope she landed on the curb on the way out. People like that don't deserve to be near horses let alone ride them!

Agreed! Head first! What in the world makes people think of such stupid things!? I would have been absolutely furious! Hopefully your boy will be alright. Good catch!

I have no idea....

"Oooo, maybe this little chemical will fix all my problems...it's not like it matters right?"

Makes me sick.

It's going to be in the paper, I think. So I don't believe she'll be riding any time soon.

You did the right thing but Iam thinking that maybe she should of been there when the vet came to hear what he had to say. Someone had to of taught her this and she should really be talked to. If she wont put bleach in her own mouth just why the **** would she put it in a horses?
