Your poor heart and mare. I'm keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. She has proved to be a tough little girl and i'm sure she'll beat all the odds!

If her vitals were slipping, I'm sure they would get right in there.

I always write down my questions so I don't blank when they call, or I get through to the Doc.

I went through 2 months of ups and downs with Thomas and his stromal abcess. I know it is exhausting, but she's in the best hands possible. Try to relax and catch a breath or two. (I found a hot bath and some Tylenol PM did wonders ).

Poor Katy. I've been keeping an eye on this thread (and the others before it) since I joined the forum.

I'm so sorry you and your lovely mare have to go through this. I'm glad she seems to be doing well all things considered and is strong. I hope we hear good news from you in the next day or two.

Until then, big and for you and your mare.

Hugs to you. I hope everything works out.

I have seen two of these types of prodedures, but both were where a foal got stuck during delivery and the mares had to be "operated" on inside the owner's barns.

One mare lived and the other died during the procedure. The mare that lived had the vet working on it immediately when the owner realized the labor was taking too long.

The one that died had been in labor for over 24 hrs and was exausted and honestly probably not going to make it even if the foal got out of her, due to the owner trying to pull the foal (like a calf w/ chains--actually pulled off the front legs of foal before calling vet) and tearing up the mare's insides.

I think your mare has a very good chance here. I like that she is alert and now in the hands of an equine vet... I think you'll be just fine. I'll keep you in my prayers.
