Didn't BestofPrincess work with a Friesian mare that had a c-section? She pulled through, but she did suffer from founder I believe...But I think she's now a healthy mare.

I read this article from Little Red Dun
Caesarean Sections - TheHorse.com

and this is what the vet said was going to be done during the c-section for Katy.

This is part of the ariticle above.

Once the foal is delivered and turned over to other crew members, the surgeon turns his attention to sewing up the uterus and cleansing the abdominal area to prevent infection. "Infection is a concern," says Embertson. "You have had your hands inside the uterus and you've normally opened up the uterus outside the abdomen."

I looked it up, just for you Angie. Survival rate for a c-section of horses is rather high. Generally between 70%-90%. I wish you & Katy Lynn the best of luck!

The mare foal foundered and I can't remember what happened to the foal but I don't think it made it.

I wish there were something I could sat that would really make things easier, I've been following this since the first and my heart is with you and your girl.

The first Appaloosa I had, Flicka was spayed because of a situation like this (it happened before I ever saw her), that was more years ago than I really care to admit to (40).
