The cow vet told me that if I ran my fingers around her cervix I could get it open enough to get the tube in and I believe I did. Thankfully I didn't tear anything and neither did he.
In January our Charolais cow lost her calf. A similar situation as to Katy's but then again not. She passed most of the calf no problem however there was still chunks yes chunks of calf and placenta left inside. This was a premature calf just for FYI. When we found her I gave her 4cc of Lutalyse and let her be, three days later no change. So my cow/horse vet came out to clean her. He filled her uterus with Betadine and water. This is one of our best cow vets and I am trying my best to remember exactly what he said but it's something along the idea that the solution will loosen what was attached to uterus and will give the cow something to push out with the Lutalyse IOW made the calf chunks and placenta easier to pass. She did just fine and is fine. So I bet that's what your vet was thinking/doing. However I just dont' think it would work in this situation. However maybe taht explains where he's coming from?

So the foal's dead? Sad, sad, sad... I hope the momma pulls through.

NP, you have enough on your mind right now. Things are still sounding good. I'm happy about that. Sounds like your vet is doing a good job, not trying to rush things and 'help' nature take it's course in this hard event. With lots of human help of course. .

So that is very good. To answer your one question that is 'fact'

Our other thread is always buried so I'm gonna mention it here. We were trying to be sneaky but not any longer. Anyone that would be able to donate a buck or two toward Katy's vet bills we would appreciate it. BW and Solsalis are the ones kind enough to take care of this. Every dollar will help.

Still thinking about Katy Lynn. I'm hoping no news is good news and on Monday, we will hear that she is doing better. Big to her and her owner.
