Jess, in that pic, are those white things draped over your arms your reins? What type of material is that if so? We ride with biothane reins, and they do become slippery in the heat and humidity out here.

And...no helmet? Most rides I am in require them, not all though

I hate beta-biothane reins, the sweat from your hands don't make for a good combo

They're just really, really long THICK cotton split reins. Like, beyond long. I don't normally ride in them, but Amirah broke my purple cotton roping reins that I normally use.

Nope, no helmet. AERC does not require helmets. I have been wearing a helmet lately, but mine was stolen [grrr!] a while ago so I haven't replaced it, I do have a crappy white one but Amirah stepped on it and cracked it so that's out, too.

I feel naked when I'm riding an Arab without my helmet, and needless to say I hate being naked, so I always have that helmet on with the Arabs, LOL!!

I like the feel of the biothane but not when it's 90* outside. I can't stand wearing gloves (winter or summer) so I just have to deal. The owner has some nylon type endurance reins, but with the horses I've been riding lately on that first lood I'd have huge blisters from them. That's the good part about biothane, it doesn't give me blisters.

I was supposed to go to a ride this weekend up in north GA, but I have to work instead. The guy I ride with was giving me grief though, because I had won it the last 3 years I had ridden in it, on 3 different horses with 2 best conditions. He was like "shame on you for not making it 4 wins in a row". I told him to pay me for working anyway and I'd go with him. He didn't like that idea, LOL!!

His son is going to ride the horse I won on and BC'd with there last year, so he *should* do very well.

Thank you! She was SO happy. She would get SO MAD when someone was in front of her, her ears would PLASTER to her head and she'd snarl at the horse as it tried to pass.

She doesn't like sharing the lead LOL
She definately loves what she is doing! I hope to use the bucking Sammy in an endurance race next year. Problem is, he is lazy. I don't know if he will enjoy it. But he is what I have to try and see if endurance is my thing.

I don't want to buy an "endurance" horse then find out I don't like endurance.

A bit of advice. Don't expect to go out on your first training ride and love it. It is tough and you more than likely are not accustomed to trotting or cantering for 10-15 miles straight. I have been doing endurance for 4 years and on my first training ride, the guy took no mercy and my legs would get tired of posting, but not being one to complain, I toughed it out and now even a 50 mile ride is a piece of cake.

Kandee is very pretty! And small! Not that I should talk, my new girl is only 14.2 (to me that is small!) but I've heard that endurance horses can be quite small. I've just been reading some of the posts on the endurance open yahoo group about that ride. Some very interesting rides!

Better luck next time!!

I just bought an endurance prospect without going on an actually endurance ride, but I have taken my qh on a 15 mile ride (we took 4 hours, and that was her unconditioned and still learning to trot a lot) and LOVED it. So I'm not worried about liking it or not.

The guy I rode my first endurance training ride with rode fast, and took no pity, LOL. So I got my competitive streak from that first time out. My last 25 mile ride was done in 2hours 1 minute. The guy I ride with has done a 50 in 3 hours 11 minutes. Holds the record for that ride.

Yeah when I went to look at Kezy (my new girl) I was shocked at how small she was, I mean I have riden several other arab, morgan, and QH's that were 14.2 before, but somewho she seems so small! I havent' really gotten to have a proper ride with her yet, but just sitting on her she doesnt' seem to feel real small. I'm 5' 8" so I will likely look a bit funny on her (as we are of course racing by to win!!)

Wow!
My friend who got me into endruance used to push Lucy (my main girl who is out sick for the year) and I, but she kept up really well, even my friend was impressed that she could keep up with her horse. And we both loved it so much!
