| Senior Member | Just got the news.....Updated w/Pics Little Santana just turned two weeks old and while grooming my other mare I thought "Hmmm, your belly is getting big" and sure enough while currying her there was a kick. I had been keeping a close eye on this the past month and attributed it to hay belly from Winter, then there was no further denying it. The vet just came out did an internal and an ultrasound and she is due in 4 weeks. I bought her last February with a guarantee that she was not pregnant. I want to help contribute to responsible breeding and she is a grade so wanted to make sure she was not bred. I am a little disappointed and I should be happy and I feel bad for that. On the other hand she is a perfect mare and I love her to pieces (a maiden too) so a baby of hers would be wonderful from that aspect. An update too and we have been working with haltering Santana the past weekend and we got it on him twice for 5 minutes at a time and he did great, I was astounded as to how patient he is. So, we will have a herd of 5 and two little ones about 2 months apart which means I am going to be one busy lady! Last edited by Anxious1; 05-06-2008 at 11:28 AM. |

| Senior Member+ | Well Congrats on the upcoming little one. It's too late now to be bummed about it... all we can do is hope baby and mom come through safely. So did the new owners lie about her not being pregnant? Or did they not know? I know you said she was grade... but what type? Is she a Quarter horse cross? Arab? TB? At least your two little ones will have each other to play with. That was one thing I wish my colt could have had. A friend his own age.

| Full Member | I was in the same situation last year.......I bought my mare from auction and was talking to the previous owner and wanted to know everything about her, she was 2 at the time and seemed to have a great attitude, nice, but still shy. I buy her ($375) get her home and a couple months later I had a friend over and she mentioned Pearl looking pregnant, took her to the vet and yup in foal and last April she had a filly. I was bummed about her being in foal and called the previous owner and he OH YEAH she was exposed to a blue roan. Which was a lie because out of a buckskin mare and blue roan sire I got a sorrel rabicano with flaxen mane and tail. Bummed yes and worried for a 2 year old having a baby, worried about her growth; would it be stunted?, but this little filly now over a year old is the sweetest most loving thing ever and Pearl doesn't seem effected by it either which is a blessing |

| Senior Member | I think what happened is that the vet simply made a mistake. I called the man I bought her from and she was bred but apparently the owner died and we have no idea what or who the stallion is. The vet checked her before he delivered her to me and said that she was not pregnant. If I do the math though, I got her in Feb and she is due in 4 weeks so that means when the vet checked her, she had to be at least 6 months pregnant, kind of hard to miss that far along isn't it? Unless his version of a test is a visual one? I had Tess ultrasounded with an internal exam for an accurate guess as the foaling date so we are pleased that Santana will have a buddy but it is alot of work with just one foal let alone having another one. However, our hearts are big and we will figure out the time factor. I believe that she is TB something - she is very leggy and has a very long neck but who knows for sure. I am a little sad though that I won't have a horse to ride all Summer after a brutal Winter that is the one thing that I was looking foward to the most. |

| Senior Member | Here are a couple from when I took pics of Santana and she is in the background and this was 16 day ago: Here you can see how much her belly sticks out beyond her in the left part of the frame: Last edited by Anxious1; 05-07-2008 at 11:14 AM. |
