Has she had a culture or biopsy done? I know that's more expense, but sometimes it's better to do that and that way you aren't pouring money into a mare that just won't get pregnant.

Hope she catches soon. I feel your pain.
Thank you, and yes, she had all of the pre-breeding tests done, including a culture.

Good. Just curious, is she maiden?

Just because misery loves company.....I had my then 11 year old maiden mare AI'd 3 times last year. Everything seemed perfect. She ovulated on time, the semen was perfect, everything. She never got pregnant any of the times. I'm trying again this year.

No, she's not a maiden. However, last time she was pregnant she concieved twins and one died in utero, causing both to be born too early. (Not by me! I do the pregnancy US check.)

I'm sorry you're going through this as well. It really is just completely devestating having your hopes dashed again and again.

perhaps choose a different stallion close to you and live cover her, there are plenty of stallions with colour, conformation, bloodlines and performance that could compliment your mare.

I wouldn't be depressed just yet. We bred our mare 3 times and on the last time we bred her in the morning and it looked like she had ovulated that night or the day after so we were pretty sure that we had missed her but low and behold the pregcheck showed a little embryo.

He actually was the best quality stallion who was closest, because I wanted to be able to meet him in person before signing the contract. It would be possible to do live cover, however it would be more of a hassle now since the breeding season at the farm where he's at is winding down. Maybe if she doesn't catch this last time we'll try LC next year.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I'm trying to keep a positive outlook, but it's really hard.

You'll be fine. I'd still stick with AI if I were you, just from the safety standpoint and knowing that your mare won't be getting anything from the stud.

yes i think that would be your best option to breed live cover, but if a stallion is fairly close that compliments your mare and has a proven show/performance record than his going to be something special. maybe you could still breed her this yr live cover and to this stallion next breeding season.

That's what everyone keeps telling me. I think I'll listen to the seasoned professionals and ride it out. There's always next year, and I could take either Zoey or Micki's baby to the fall shows I suppose.

I have very very very high requirements for potential husbands to my mares, and out here really close to me people aren't exactly...um...ah! There's no nice way to say that they aren't exactly breeding quality stock, or taking the time, effort, and money required to put decent show records on them. People near me are just breeding to breed and not to make the horse industry or their selected breed(s) better. Besides, even if there was another closer stud that had every great point Lucks has and would compliment Lexi just as well, I'd hate to pay another stud fee right now to a horse that wasn't even in my final top two picks.

I know how you feel!! We have a 5 yr old mare that we bred and she took the first time... we bred her dam, who is about 18... and well this is the 3rd go round..we are hoping she took this time, but won't be sure till later in the month!! We did LC with her, and AI with the 5 yr old.

I wish u the best of luck in getting your mare in foal! I know its frustrating but just hang in there!
