You know...I fully agree with this...still...it is too bad for those retired pros who have waited the designated years to re-apply for their ammy status and get it....that this happens.

Sometimes....the hassles the "new" ammy who is now truly an ammy has to go through from these "shamatuers" .....is a real pain...because...the idea is...if one does it...they all do it........and these ammies are falsely reported too

Makes for a never ending headache circle to some.

I very much agree that those retired pros who wait the required number of years should be allowed to show Amateur status. Horse show circles are very small and we well know those trainers who have gotten out of training and are just doing their own horses now and have no need to report them. Those are not the ones I mentioned who somehow managed to hang on to their Amateur status. It's the "trainers wives" who start actively training clients horses in their own discipline (often HUS by the way), but have the clients pay the husbands (who often train either WP or cattle events) so that they can continue as an amateur that are the ones who usually skate. They are the ones who I am talking about when I mention those that "get by".

Seeeee....even if this rider now had her Ammy status back...from what I gather from the rules posted for her class....she is not a novice if she was a trainer before regaining her ammy staus....or...did I read it wrong in the rules..or is the "novice" related to the horse that is ridden by an Ammy...in which case...

How long must a person wait to regain ammy status in this discipline...annnnnd....was she already retired from coaching when she bought the horse....

mmmmm...things to ponder since this is in the original post stating the trainer was champ.....

OP QUOTE...

The WP/HUS trainer whom I used to work with (and am good friends with) ended up Nov Am champ at congress on her 3yo.

I remember when she first got him as an unbroke scragly 2yo... man has he come a LONG way.... ita amazing =)

END

EC rules require two years min. in any discipline they govern before Ammy status can be applied for.

I too hope this is cleared up

So far, no one has claimed the rider in the OP is a "shamateur", we have ASKED for clarification.

As to the first part, if she quit training/receiving compensation for horse related activities the required time, then she is a qualified Ammy as long as she:

Quote:
There are a few rules to follow to determine your eligibility as a novice. You cannot compete as a novice in any skill sets if you match any of the following criteria:
  • Won a world or reserve world, national or reserve national championship title in any other equine breed organization in an AQHA-approved event
  • Won a total of $5,000 in cash and prizes with any equine breed organization
  • Been an accredited horse show judge
  • Earned 25 or more performance points in the AQHA open, novice amateur, amateur, novice youth or youth divisions combined.
Novice points are awarded for an exhibitor’s lifetime points in that novice class. Novice points are not added to your permanent show record.
I can't remember if it's 5 or 7 years since receiving your last renumeration for horse related events, going to look, for allowing Amateur status to be reinstated.

Found it. It's 5 years:
Page 31
http://www.aqha.com/association/regi...alrules_09.pdf

Quote:
(1) the applicant has not shown, judged,
trained or assisted in training a horse for remuneration, either directly
or indirectly, nor received compensation for instructing another
person in riding, driving, training or showing a horse, for five years
previous to application for amateur membership;

(2) the applicant is the sole actual legal owner
of the horse(s) to be shown by the applicant and agrees to document
such ownership upon request of AQHA; or
(3) if the horse to be shown by the applicant is
legally owned by a family member or legal guardian, as defined by
AQHA rules, such individual must sign the application with the
applicant verifying the truth of its contents, and also agree to furnish
documentation substantiating ownership upon request;

I know you were

But...sometimes...the Jumper/Hunter ring.....does it for political BS/other/just because....and the shamatuers give them the opening to include those who now show for themselves...and if this is one of those riders....wellllll....

sic them girl.... ....
