?? WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!! ??

Posted 01-29-2006 at 11:10 AM by Elia
I guess I'll say that I suppose I know where my parents (along with my friends parents) are coming from when their advice falls on deaf ears. I suppose it was a good thing that I listened to the song "Cats in the Cradle" yesterday.
I was talking to a friend of mine today, and my advice was kind of the brutal truth because I've known someone who had a similar problem, and the things I've told him fell on completely deaf ears. He basically said I was bringing him down and making him feel bad. What else was there to do? Sugarcoat the problem? Sugarcoating does not help at all.
I know I'm not perfect and everything, but this guy is my FRIEND. I don't want to lose him over some advice that I gave to the best of my ability (I know it can't be 100% perfect), so I'm probably gonna end up making the mistake many people make-- and be nice to him not to lose him as a friend, just for the peace of it.
I guess I understand now why my parents just DON'T GIVE UP. They don't give up because they want to raise us right even if it hurts them so bad in the end. They'd destroy their lives so we'd be better, so we won't make the same mistakes they have made in the past.
It's sad because in just an hour from now, I will have probably forgotton I wrote this. Just like, Lord of the Flies was a good book, and I remember a lot of it, because we had to study it, but a couple of years down the road, I probably won't remember ANYTHING about the book other than "It's just a bunch of boys on a desert island who went insane."

Why must we harden our hearts, block our ears, and emotionally try to run away from our problems and pretend we aren't there... ? Why must we make those who love and care about us to waste their breaths in the hopes of us turning into a better adult than they were? When will we learn?

Will we learn when we grow up and have our own children or will we learn NOW? ...

When a parent or a friend gives us advice, we follow it, until we don't like it.We thank them by telling them to shut up and we hope they'll leave us alone, ,when really they are trying to be helpful.

How could we change this? We could change this by actually listening to them, even if we don't agree.. by telling them honestly why we disagree with their position... by understanding that their advice was not designed to hurt us, but they give it to us because they really do care.

I know sometimes it is hard to commit to memory, it will probably be hard for me, even though I just learned it today... but...

If I could just have one day... to say "I'm Sorry" ..... and to take back every rude thing I said to those who really do care about me....

It would have to be more than 24 hours.

Sometimes we just need a Wake Up! call .....some people just learn from people with more experience.... and some people decide to learn the hard way.... and some people just don't learn at all.....

Which one will you be?

We should learn to say "Thank you, for the advice."
Saying, "I disagree with you, Mom/Dad" is better than saying, "SHUT UP, I'm RIGHT, YOU'RE WRONG!" Is it any wonder that many arguments get nowhere......?

If I want anything from this journal entry,

It's for my readers to think about it. At least for a minute......
