Depressed

Posted 05-28-2008 at 09:18 PM by Ureventer
I've really been feeling so incredibly depressed about everything that has happened with Ty over the last two years.

I brought him from skin and bones to healthy weight and muscle.
I trained him.
I sent him to the equine hospital so he wouldn't lose his eye.
I restarted our training and then had to put it on hold when I went into the hospital for my Crohn's disease.
I started retraining again and finally reached a point where we were capable of competing...

6 more days...

Posted 05-26-2008 at 09:10 PM by Ureventer
I took myself out to the barn this afternoon to go spray Ty down, check for ticks, and give him a big hug. It was beautiful outside, but who turned off the air conditioning?! It was a scortching 86 degress out there and I felt every bit of it. At least it wasn't raining as it had been of recent.

When I put Ty in his stall, I noticed he had a cut on the inside of his right hind leg. It didn't seem to affect him and was healing, so I'm not really worried about it. Just made me shake...

"Iz gotz da itchies mommy!"

Ty had his farrier's appointment today, so naturally I went out to go hold him. As I arrived a good deal earlier than expected, I decided to groom and graze him. As I was grooming Ty, he kept rubbing his head side to side against the stall door so as to scratch under his neck. He kept insisting on doing this. I checked under his neck, felt for bumps, looked for scrapes and bleeding but found nothing.

During his appointment with his "manicurist," he seemed to be looking...

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing.

I keep counting down the days until the vet exam. Obviously it could swing three ways:

(1) I get a postive answer (i.e. he can be treated and put back to work).
(2) I get a negative answer (i.e. I have to retire him from eventing, or riding period).
(3) I get no answer.

I would hate not to get anything out of this vet exam, but I have a feeling that I will find the answer I've been trying so long to stumble on. While I may not like the results, I will definitly...

A Little Hope

I got a phone call back from the vet about twenty minutes ago. One of the vets that has been working steadily on Ty's case found my research very interesting and wants to run tests. Ty will be scheduled for a neurological exam and to have bloodwork done on June 2nd at 10:30; it will be a two-hour exam....insurance will be covering it. Cross your fingers!
