Moving Forward

Posted 07-25-2008 at 04:50 PM by Ureventer
Well Ty has navicular disease (see thread: Ty's Final Diagnosis). I still have yet to get ahold of the vet to discuss treatment options, but will update as soon as I have more of a handle on the situation.

With that said, yesterday I went out to the barn to go check on Ty when I saw the lady who owns Ty's "girlfriend," Blue, come up the driveway. When I smiled and waved, she stopped and asked how Ty was doing. After talking a little about navicular disease, she asked...

Reliving Days Gone By

This morning I was looking through old photos I had of Ty. Here are a couple from a ride on November 11, 2006:

Nostalgia really hit me. It was difficult for me to understand how we went from point A to point Z in such a short period of time. We were going places and now it seems our story is coming...

Thinking Realistically

Posted 07-02-2008 at 08:49 AM by Ureventer
Ty's vet appointment will be on the 7th. It will probably be one of his last.

I am heading off to college in August and need to figure out what I will be doing with him. He can't come with me as I don't have a car and the equine facilities on campus doesn't accept boarders. I can only see two things happening.

I went to see Ty today after getting back from vacation. Can't say I'm too happy.

He seemed to exibit pain in his front, so I took him into the indoor ring and lunged him a little. It looked as though he was sore in his right shoulder and had difficulty extending. Either he strained himself or the medication + special shoeing has failed miserably. Hopefully he just pulled himself, but I tend to think not.

I'll be trying to get the vet to come out on Thursday. Here...

Injections

Yesterday Ty had a short vet appointment (possibly the shortest one we've had...at least when you compare it to the typical 2 hour routine).

The vet injected both front coffin joints with a long acting cortisone (Depomedrol - 50 mg in each) and an antibiotic (Amikacin). When injecting the left, Ty started bleeding heavily, which leads the vet to believe that there's significant inflamation there.

Before turning him out, she applied pretty purple wraps to keep his feet...
