Not My Dream

Posted 01-25-2008 at 08:03 PM by Timber_blaze
So, I've loved horses for as long as I can remember. I watched Black Stallion until it broke, I've read the entire Saddle Club series, every Marguerite Henry book, and Black Beauty about once a year. Every horse-crazy girl's dream is to have a horse of her very own, right?

Yet as much as I love Jake, I've discovered that I don't want to be a horse owner. A good horse owner is willing to sacrifice time and money to work with the horse every day, to groom and check for health every day....

Bad Fall

Posted 01-19-2008 at 09:22 PM by Timber_blaze
I now have the dubious honor of saying Jake and I had our first accident. I went out to see him and fit him for the fleece cooler I'm making for him. That took long enough that I didn't want to go for a real ride, so I decided to just hop on and ride bareback for a couple minutes. It was really muddy, but I couldn't ride in the arena because they had a (very) pregnant mare turned out in there, and I didn't want to disturb her. I figured the lane running in front of the stable would be dry, so...

With all of the times I've been asked why I love horses, I've never been able to come up with an answer that satisfies them or myself. Why do I like horses? It's not the way I was raised, because I'm the only rider in my family. I've liked horses as long as I can remember, so I can't trace it back to a particular instance that sparked my interest.

I've never been timid around them, either. I'm a 4-H leader and I work with a couple of girls that like horses but are intimidated...

Legacy

Posted 01-01-2008 at 07:05 PM by Timber_blaze
The molten power seethes and flows unbidden,
fire streams from cell to blood in sullen
waves, impatient to be freed to move
from heart and lungs to heaving chest and hooves;
the wild addicting joy of body surging,
piston legs revolving, senses purging,
burning thought from burdened brain until
no thought remains. I do not think, but feel
the supple leather caught in hand, the rippled,
molded flesh controlled beneath the saddle.
I feel...

Teddi was not very cuddly

Posted 01-01-2008 at 06:39 PM by Timber_blaze
Wow, what a fiasco. I've been leasing Jake to a lady named Teddi for the last few months, and we've both been enjoying the arrangement. So, of course something had to happen to make things difficult. Jake got sick off the hay Teddi bought. He got diarrhea which burned his butt badly enough that he just stopped pooping. Basically, he gave himself colic. We finally got him comfortable enough to get things moving again, but I guess the whole episode just shot Teddi's nerves all to heck, so she told...
