Finally got to saw some lumber

Posted 07-12-2006 at 08:01 PM by Super Step
I finally got to run the sawmill, make lumber.

I had the edger out because I had some rough cut oak, mis cuts, that I had bought from a sawmill before we bought our own. I wanted to edge and use as a flooring for the tack and feed rooms, but I found termites. Good excuse to pull out the mill and make my own. Sounds funny, but to be able to take a log and in a few minutes have fresh beautiful lumber, it is just a good feeling, doing that on your own.
The edger saves so much time...

Tina

Posted 07-07-2006 at 09:03 PM by Super Step
I do not know what to do about Tina's leg. It is either broken or dislocated from the the car accident. I can see the bone moving. The bumper mark is right on the joint.
Deer coming out of sedation is 50/50.
She is such a loving animal. She comes running when she sees me or if I see her first and call. Then she makes every step I do around the farm.
I followed her tonight when she left the back yard after being fed apples and bread. She has had a hiding place I could not find....

Getting behind

Posted 07-06-2006 at 09:08 PM by Super Step
Summer break is over half over for me and it seems I am still far behind.
We are in the middle of a bad drought. Hay will be scarce locally. I will have enough for the horses, but was planning to winter some calves. I hope I still can.
I am having one cross fence bulldozed and am going to rearrange the division of pasture/hay land.
I am having a time juggling my time with Dad. He gets so into the least little thing and just drags it out. I am patient with him. He will not be here...

I wish I could sleep in

Posted 06-27-2006 at 08:38 PM by Super Step
I wish I did not have to get up in the morning.
I have been asked to bury a horse in the morning at 8:00. She will still be alive when I get there with the back hoe.
This mare has been suffering from founder for many, many years. She has never been pain free. In a way I will be glad her suffering will end. She is a sweet mare. I can not judge, the owner is a nice man, but I always thought more could have been done for her.
She lives in a pasture with her mother, who will now be...

Tina came Back

Posted 06-07-2006 at 07:19 PM by Super Step
Tina came home this morning.
I was sitting here checking the forum before I went to the barn. My daughter told me Tina was out back.
I sat on the back steps and fed her sliced apples and bread (her favorite food in life). I then sat and groomed her with my hand. She likes the personal contact and licks you as you rub.
She followed me to the barn and ate in the pellets in the feed room just like normal. Then she followed me back home and laid resting in the shade.
