Life on the Farm

Posted 10-07-2006 at 07:11 PM by Super Step
Been busy.

I need to get pictures on Zoie, the fawn, nursing the goat. As soon as I hold the goat, she knows what to do. I believe the goat is with Kids and trying to dry up. I no longer have an excess of milk and am feeding canned goat milk between nursings.
Zoie spends the night in the house. Stays at my feet until bed time, then is put in a dog crate.
Morning, she gets a bottle, and a goat. What a life. She has learned to run. We walk to the pond every evening now...

Been Busy

We baled hay Saturday. Hired two teens to help haul it in. I hope to cut some more this week and bale again this Saturday. I wish I was two weeks earlier. I could probably get some more hay off this field. I want to winter some calves if the prices drop because of hay shortages.
Almost time to begin planting our winter pastures.

The doe Fawn, Zoie, is doing well. I have decided to bring her in the house at night. She is sleeping in a dog crate right beside me.
She no longer...

Sick Fawn

Posted 09-13-2006 at 07:47 PM by Super Step
Today has been a challenge. This morning the little buck fawn was bumping me and wanting to eat, but he has never quite figures that part out. I have never had a fawn I could not get to take a bottle. Some have been a challenge, but patience and technique usually win.

The doe fawn is nursing off the goat, but she is not giving enough milk. I think the move here made her drop off. I can put the buck on her and he will hold it, but not suck. Even with me working his mouth with my hand....

New Fawn

I received a call this morning of a fawn that had wandered into a neighborhood. They took him back into the woods, but he would not stay.
So I now have a little buck fawn about two weeks old, maybe less.
I have never received one this young. He still does not take the bottle well, but buts on you like a bottle calf.
