Living life as it comes along.
Special days

I've been wanting to start a journal, but didn't know where to begin. I think this as good a place in my life as any.
Introductions are in order so you will know who I am referring to when I use their name.
Tommy is my husband. He is 6'3", 280 lbs, blond hair/blue eyes, and a down to earth country boy.
TR is my one and only son. It's short for Thomas Ray. He is big'un for being 9 1/2 yrs old. He is 4'11" and weighs in at 132 lbs.
Jennifer (15), Robyn (13), and Jessica (9) are the children of a couple that have lost themselves in this world. We refer to them as our "weekend daughters" because every weekend they are here all weekend long. Jessica even more often.
Anyway.
Tomorrow is Tommy's birthday. He has been singing the blues all day because it is his 49th birthday which, to him, means 50 is right around the corner. He says it like when he hits 50...... that's it. Life is over. I don't get it. His dad is 73 yrs old and still does all the things he has always done.
I told Tommy this morning, after he took a breath from his belly-achin about being "old", that tomorrow he would only be one day older than he is today, so what's the big deal? He told me I would "understand" when I got closer to 50, (I'm 43). I just laughed.... (and they say women are vain about their age.)
May is full of special days for us. Tommy's birthday is on May 8th. My dad's birthday is May 9th, my youngest brothers two children's birthdays are May 15th and May 21st, my FIL's wife's birthday is May 19th (Tommy's mother died in 93. His dad remarried), the anniversary of Tommy's mother's death is May 21st, my dad's girlie friend's birthday is May 5, Tommy's and my anniversary is May 22nd and putting an end to a month of too much to remember is Tommy's sister's birthday which is May 25. What's more....... school lets out May 25th this year. I will start counting down the days until they go BACK to school on May 26th......LOL
Speaking of our anniversary. It is hard to believe it, but this year we will celebrate our 25th. The Silver one..... (kinda like what is happing to my hair
)
I met Tommy in Oct 1981. I was 17, he was 23. We got married May 22 1982. It's kinda funny. Since my dad lived in MS at the time, he had not met Tommy during the 8 ms or so we were dating. Their first meeting was the day Tommy and I got married, about an hour before the ceremony at the church. My dad being my dad, after talking to Tommy for less than 5 mins told me....... I'll give it 6 ms.
Hehehe..... we've stayed together this long just to prove him WRONG.
Not really (but I bet you already knew that).
It's really weird. I didn't know Tommy for the first 17 yrs of my life. We have been together now for almost 26 yrs total. I don't have this gushy kinda feeling that he is my universe, but I don't remember what it was like not having him in my life. That goes for the bad as well as the good. And I can honestly say that it has been a short 26 yrs. We have covered a lot of ground in our lives together and I don't know how we got it all done because it seems like such a short time ago when we met.
Almost time for TR and the girls to be home from school. I will be hearing the chorus of "I'm hungry/thirsty" shortly...... and 4 nearly grown youngun will not be able to do anything for themselves.
