So Far, So Good....

Posted 09-12-2007 at 09:14 PM by wyldterv
Had a good meeting with my new boss today at the magazine and so far, so good 3 wks into this She's happy with the job I'm doing, happy that I can figure things out without too much fuss and it is looking like I will be getting more hours in October, and sounds like sooner rather then later, this gig could go pretty much full time.

I do have to say, so far, so good, in the fact that I'm enjoying the job over all and my days are going by nice and fast .

On to NON-Work stuff!!!! I took Dancer and my neighbor down to the Pilchuck Tree Farm on Monday for a long trail ride... it was a TERRIFFIC ride!~ Well OK the START was a bit rocky... The truck ran out of diesel only about 3 blocks from the house HOW embarassing... The low fuel light had JUST come on, so I figured we could make it the other Three blocks down to the gas station on the corner, but apparently NOT... sigh.... FORTUNATLEY for me, it happened right in front of a local stable where there was room to get off the road with the truck/camper and trailer and the owner of the place recognized me and gave me a ride to the gas station to get some diesel so I did not have to walk home, drive another car to get fuel, put fuel in truck, drive extra car home and then walk back which would have delayed our day by ALOT

BUT once we got THAT small glitch out of the way, volia.... 45 mins later we were at the trail head parking area and tacking up.... the weather was PERFECT about 85 outside and STUNNINGLY beautiful. Dancer was PERFECT as well... She REALLY listened to me, even when she had to cross a stream that in the past had only been about ankle deep but due to a construction of a beaver dam on it, it was up about 1/4 of the way up her sides I was holding my feet UP out of the water , so did not have my leg on her once we got to that part, and she STILL listened to me even though she was snorting and sniffing in the water.. She got a BIG 'atta girl' praise session for that

THEN we ended up on a section of trail in the system that I had not previously found.... there were a TON of downed trees the horses had to walk over and navigate and there were a few instances of having to step inbetween and up and over 3-4 different logs in one area at once, but again, she decided to really listen to me and she walked carefully instead of trying to leap over.

I really think it was our best trail ride to date... We even found the Pilchuck River, that was pretty cool too!!! I definately will NOT try that section of trail during the wet months though.... YOu can tell it floods out badly.

It is supposed to be NOT raining tomorrow so I think I'll find someplace a bit closer to ride Dancer at, but still take her for a trail ride .

On a non-horse note, it looks like Whirlie is most likely in whelp, so I will arrange to pick her up next week as she is due on the 28th and I need to get a whelping box together and get her settled in... I also need to make sure I can have a day or two off if necessary until she whelps! but PUPPIES hopefully will be coming in a few weeks End of Sept means they'll go home end of Nov...Don't know that Rog will be thrilled to have MORE DOGS here for a few months but it's been almost 2.5 yrs since I had puppies here last... so even though this is not my litter (I'm whelping it out for my very good friend who has breast cancer treatment going on right now so just can't take on puppy duty for now) Whirlie is my favorite girlie and I'll enjoy having her here for a bit.

BACK to Horse Topics... Since it looks like I'm getting added hours at work, I am going to seriously start trying to cajol some of the more 'local' reining trainers (as in no more then 1.5 hr drive away) into letting me trailer in for some lessons.... wish me luck with that, lol, since I have an AY-Rhab and all, lolol.... There is a small reining show this weekend at the Lynden Fairgrounds so I'm planning on going to watch for awhile AND to talk to trainers that are there to see who's game for taking Dancer and I on
