I am writing this to help my self and my aunt sort things out with her gelding, Denali. He has sever founder in all 4 feet that started in June of 09. His rotation is at least 16 degrees in all 4 feet and his heart rate is often above 80. Somehow, he still lives.
I will add more about this later.
Thanks.

November 9th. Moving day

Denali survived the move, but is in a lot of pain now. Trailering a foundered horse is a very bad thing. I hope he feels better soon.

Nov. 1st update

Sorry I have not posted for a while. Denali has been improving slowly. He is growing new hoof anyway.
They are moving to a new house 45 minutes from where they are now next week. The vet will be out to block all 4 of Denali's feet for the trip. I hope the bone does not push through during the bumpy ride.
Well, here are some pictures from today.

A small update on Denali

Posted 10-03-2009 at 12:15 PM by shell
I got this message from my aunt today:

Hi Shellie,
I talked to Dr. Mike about moving Denali. He said he could block his feet and drug him then we could put him into your trailer so he could lie down for the trip to the new place. Our escrow is now to close on Nov. 9th. Do you think you could trailer him for us?
This still may not happen as he has to be evaluated again on the right foot. If the right foot is continuing to erode we will have to put him down - if not we...

Update Oct.1st

Posted 10-01-2009 at 07:40 PM by shell
Well, my aunt's house sold and they have 30 days to move. I have no idea how they will move Denali. This is going to be difficult to say the least. I will keep you posted about that too.
His bone infection seems to be getting the better of him as he is refusing to eat now. He eats some, but not enough to keep him very healthy or active. I feel so bad for him.

Post vet update. Not good

Well, the x-rays showed that the bone in both front feet had pushed through the sole. BUT a calas has formed over it. Also, Denali has a bad bone infection in both front feet as well. His right hind is the best foot out of the bunch, and the left is OK. Even after this grim diagnosis, my aunt still does not want to put him down. They changed his antibiotics and are trying to clear up the infection.
I feel so bad for this poor horse. I wish him a seedy recovery or a quick death. (well,...
