SBC & their riding program......having doubts.

Posted 12-06-2005 at 04:58 PM by drunkenmimes
SBC was BEAUTIFUL. absolutly gorgeus. Its appereantly ranked 3 in the country for campus's. It's one of the few colleges that have both riding and pre-vet. So i went to vist it yestarday, despite the 8hr drive. lol. Lets just say Dramamine is my BFF now. So i met with the riding instructor or one of the head ones. He was nice but for some reason i just got a bad vibe from him. Maybe it was the fact that he pretty much was like "You'll be treated like gold if you own your own horse(which i dont) or your on a team(which i probably wont be trying out for)" He was pretty much saying that boarders are the ones that will be able to do the "advanced" jumping(not that im going to be in that class), and that the only time a person with out a horse rides in that class is when theyre amazingly good and the school will "lend" them a horse. Which happens close to never. Then he was saying how certain horses, school horses that jump higher then 3ft, as saved for people who are on teams. Not that ill be jumping higher then 3ft or that i want to, but it wuld be nice to think that if i perfect my riding to be able to jump higher then 3', I be able to do so. He gave us this whole speech about the program but I tend to be able to read between the lines fairly well and got that out of him, but im alright with it. As long as i get to ride/interact with horses then I'l be happy. I'm not the kinda of person who is all about shows, shows, shows and jumping high. Im more about just enoying the company of a horse and bettering myself as a rider. I know that since its an all girls school im going to encounter alot of snobby, rude girls but I tend to go with the flow and I dont think I'll be bothered by them. Heyyy, i have you guys to vent to! lol. Im trying to stay positive seeing as though i havent taken a class with them/even ridden there so I cant sit here and say its horrible. Ill know the 15th of Decemeber if i get in. YAY. But that whole riding thing is making me have doubts. Im applying to UNH(univeristy of New Hampshire) which is a riding school and then event, instead of hunter/jumpers....i just dont know... maybe ill be able to find an eventing barn around the area..if i cant stand the riding there.
