Riding my pony - getting cows - and escape artists...

Posted 06-06-2008 at 09:02 AM by westerngirl14
Wowza, its been ages since I've written in this journal...... time I hit the keys again!

yeah, well, as the title of this entry suggests, I've had an interesting week.

To start it off........ I finally got around to riding Rain..... I used to ride her every day, but life picked up pace and riding my pony just got put in my luxury category of life. But I did find some time one afternoon, and headed out to ride.
... I decided to skip the saddle... A, because it's more work to put on, and B, because it's more fun and relaxing to ride bareback.
So I grabbed her bridle off the hook, brushed the dust off of it. *guilty sigh* and headed out to the paddock to catch my little gal........ She got caught easily enough, like always. I tied her to the fence, and tried to put the bridle on.

oh no, she wasn't going to do that!!!!! she backed up as far as the rope would go, and I tried again. She turned her head to the side, and swung her hindquarters at me. *frustrated sigh*
Finally, finally, she just sorta gave up, and I slipped the bit in. She was a reformed pony! She stood like a rock, with this repentant look on her face. She'd BETTER be sorry!
I led her up along the fence, got on the fence, and then slid onto her back........ We were off!
She was a little rusty after not being ridden for a while, but I just kept working with her, and she began shaping up. Was a GREAT ride!!!!!!! I forgot how much fun ponies could be. Everybody should get a pony!!!!!

This week we also got cows...... 2 of them, tiny little black things. I'm used to great hulking beef cows, that plod around, and when I saw these little guys, the first thing I thought of was " deer"....LOL

Well...... they must have deer in their blood somehow, cuz they proved to be quite the high jumpers!!! we had them ONE day, and then the next afternoon, I was upstairs peacefully reading my book, and Mom yelled up to me:
"Hey Susan, get down here; the cows are out!"

*yeeikes.*

we almost had them back in about 10 times, but just as they reached the gate, they would bolt, and gallop off madly toward the horizon....... as they dashed through growing corn fields ( including our neighbors) , trampling it down..... agggh!!!! those little spitfires HAD to be stopped!!! but HOW!?!?
I kid you not, we were out an ENTIRE afternoon, tromping around in fields....... my legs were coated in mud to my knee...

Finally, just before supper, we recruited the help of my uncle, and we finally got them in.
here's a picture of them - any name suggestions?? maybe "Trouble", and "Tribulation?"

LOL.

so anyway, T & T are safely in a corral again.

have a good day!
