Ponehs RULE!

Posted 09-29-2008 at 08:37 PM by Feliche
Tis true They do!!

WOOT WOOT! SO! New news. I have like 3 things today to yammer about!

So, I've been looking for a pony for Liz. I think I talked about our rather odd experience last time...crazy vibes, tell you what. Here was the post:
Quote:
So first I rode Melody...didn't like her much. I just didn't get a "kid friendly" vibe from her. She was a nice little thing, but she would need someone who knows just what she's doing. She was not well trained, nor was the other I'm afraid to say. They were hard to steer! and that's even with just me, not to mention Liz. BUT, for the record neither had been ridden all summer, so I'd expect they wouldn't be as good as they could be...but hey, we're not looking for a horse I have to train on before the kid can ride her, especially for the price!

Then I tried Abra, and she was a really really sweet thing, and Liz liked her a lot. She even trotted her just a bit, and I'd explained that it will feel very different becasue it's a pony trot. It was still very nice though, and I liked her =) But she's definately not, imo, worth what they were asking for her. Melody was prettier, but she just wasn't right. I asked Liz why she didn't want to try Melody, and she just said she didn't know. I said I didn't either...and that we call those "bad vibes" =P

Speaking of bad vibes...the owner...haha! She was what I would call slightly "abrasive". She was talking to Liz like she was 3, and didn't seem to know what she was talking about...not surprised, based on the ponies' training...but for example, when I was going to canter Abra, she was telling me to "pull HARD on the outside rein"...and then she asked me to jump her, and was being very critical because "she needs more impulsion! You aren't asking enough!" let me tell you...I was asking as hard as I could! She told me to smack her on the SHOULDER with the crop, and then when I did she was like "take the reins in one hand when you use the crop! You're going to pull the rein!" Oh brother. Thanks but no thanks, as far as the lady goes. The ponies had some promise but I will definately be doing some more looking!

Britton's at the joust, and a little pony went with them. To joust. At a joust. This means...the pony MUST be safe, or the owner is...less than logical. The pony is only three but from the way mom was talking about her she was really calm. And jousting...it takes a little more training than it sounds like. Enough to where I'd imagine you could actually steer the pony, unlike...eh. Oh well.

Sooo on the way home, we had a tire explode on us. It felt like it anyway--the tread ripped off and we had to sit at a truck stop and color for two hours LMAO... Lovely. Sooo then we got home, I gave her a lesson on a friend's horse Roger (it went very well btw), and then I went home.
Anyhow, yes so Thurs. last I went out to see this lil Caspian. I was SO excited when I learned how unique they are, and as soon as we pulled up, I thought...okay...this is the one. He just is. I rode him and loved him, and...I was RIGHT =D Cause Sat. I went back with Liz and her family, and she just fell in love with him. He's so sweet. =) He's just mellow as can be, but a little leary of people just because he's not been worked with in a long time. His name is Zuphus Hehehe! I love it. It's so cute...just like him. He's not PERFECT conformationally, but he's sound in mind and body and the perfect size and temperment, and there's nothing like that we'll find anywhere else. He's almost blood bay, too. So cute and handsome. So Liz, she's SO quiet. She doesn't talk a lot and is really shy *though her Gma says that since she's been riding she's WAY more confident...she trotted on Roger even though she was scared to, and now she's so confident...and then she trotted all the way around the ring with Feliche. That night they went to Red Lobster and Liz...ordered for HERSELF They were so proud of her* and so I didn't know at first, though I felt...a softness and comfort around her and this pony that I didn't feel last time with those two others. Oh btw I also looked at Mabelline and she wasn't right at all...she could be a SUPER champ expensive reining horse, she's amazing, but not for anything like what we want. So anyway, Tami *owner* let Liz walk around with the pony after her ride to get to know him. I asked if she liked him, and she said yes. Better than Abra? Yes. Think maybe he's the one? *nods*. While she was keeping him company, the adults and I talked. Then Liz called Ali (her gma) over and was talking to her quietly. They came back and Ali announced Liz's plan...so that she might keep this pony, Liz *SEVEN years old, btw* is going to ask her Grandpa...for a LOAN Can you believe it?! A loan. I just love it, and admire her work ethic! She doesn't want to be handed anything.

Before we left, we went to say goodbye to Zooie. She gave him a hug around the neck and told him..."You're my favorite horse" Aww. So sweet...they're just made for each other. Now remember how Zoo is leary? Well...his eyes softened with Liz. He could feel the need and the love that she could give him. It was truly amazing.

Second item of business...Cross country and MY pony updates! We took Andre and Feliche XC schooling yesterday in AZ. Got up at 3(am), drove 6 hours, rode for four hours, and drove 6 hours back home. MEGA yawn. Sad news is, we couldn't go to the LCHA HJ show because it was the last weekend to school, and we couldn't go sat. because we HAVE to have an "insured trainer" and my friend Alexis from Tuscon and her trainer weren't coming until Sunday (show day). But it was worth it!!

Andre was SUCH a good boy. We only had 3 (4 if you include water, which isn't flagged at his level anyway) stops the whole day Cutie pie...he is NOT a dirty stopper either. He trusts me a good deal, and so when he isn't sure he SLOOWWSSSSS down like a frieght train =P But then, a little kiss kick cluck and he goes right over, the dear little guy He thinks he's about 9 hands, I swear. So then, I rode Feliche, and he was SO full of himself ;P Silly goose. He jumped EVERYTHING in sight, I swear. Even water. Water, which was a festering pool of muck because they're letting it try to re-bed it, which is really good I guess =) But it sucked off one of his shoes part way! I didn't know until the Mission jump. It's an adobe wall made to look like a Spanish Mission, with a little arched cubby with a candle inside. He came into it funny, jumped it with a chip, and CLANG...hits his feet, HARD. Wait, CLANG?? I trot him a sec and make sure he's okay, and then jump off and look at his feet. Yeeepp. Right front shoe, GONE. Lisa was like "did it come off in the water?" and I said "no I heard a clang!" and we looked...and couldn't find it! So I peeked in the hole...and there it was. Feliche has mad skills. The HORSESHOE almost made a RINGER around the candle!! ROFL!! LMAO it was the funniest thing, I swear!! Ahhh

Then Dante is good too =) He hasn't gone up on me in a long time, and today even though he was forward and I had more contact, he didn't get mad at me! I was very proud. He deserves a cookie or three! Tomorrow should be even better. We're trying fences now, but he likes to rush so I'm setting placement poles. So, handsome is good And I need to DL the pic of Andre letting me hold an Umbrella while riding

Thanks for reading! =D

That's good that you finally found a pony that will work!

Silly Feliche! He must think plain Eventing is too easy, lets just add a little bit of a challenge and play horseshoes while jumping!!!

A loan? That's hilarious. I probably didn't even know what a loan was when I was 7. Don't forget to post pictures of the pony when you get him!
