Plan for the big guy

Well after yesterdays ride,,,I have a plan for the big guy (Dawn)
For the longest while he just would not relax into his canter and respond to my cues....one day he 'got it'........and apparently is not planning on reverting back.
Yesterday we did a bunch of flatting and then I had a single 3'3 vertical set in the middle of the long side. We just cantered all around the ring to the vertical (talk about long approach). Each and every time (about 8 or so) he got a perfect spot..held his pace, reacted to my directions to shorten or lengthen stride...and just plain jumped clean. EVERY TIME.
So its OBVIOUS this horse can jump...the issue for the show in just 3 weeks is fitness. SO I'll be putting him in 2 2'9" jumper classes and then do one 3'-3'3 jumper class to test the waters. If he does just fine...by the time the next show rolls around....3'-3'3 should be a cake walk for him. And if he's successful I may take him to the Oklahoma show with Fiona
And Fiona....well she did the same jump but on a loose rein like a hunter. So the options are endless for her. She'll still do the 3'6 jumpers because thats just what she does, but if for some reason Dawn catches up sooner rather than later, I MAY bump her to hunters...we'll see though...I don't like hunters that much HAHA
OR if the both of them excel and BOTH get to 3'9 or whatever....screw these lower shows...we'll put the money into the A shows instead.
But anyway, both horses are putting forth GREAT performances lately and should do really well this season. NOW its all on ME to calm the nerves! haha
