'nother Show

Posted 08-27-2007 at 08:07 PM by faroutfax
I haven't updated this in... well a long time.

We had another show his past Sunday. On Staurday night it rained, not good for our outdoor arena!

The arena was absolute muck, and of course we were the ones that volunteered to pratice showmanship in the ring first

Our first three classes were held out of the ring where out ingate usually is.

Our first class was showmanship trail, usually our best class. Not this time! Misty decided that she'd like to try and jog the course, which is very unlike her. Our turn box was a mess! She jogged through it and steped about 2' out of the box and the rest was just sloppy. Then we had to stop before the ground poles. Of course she picked up the jog nicely Her weaving and back were nice though. We ended up getting 2/3

Next class was open showmanship. I think there were about a dozen horses (I didn't count though). We had a really nice pattern. Our pattern was walk to the pylon, stop and back 5 steps, walk to the judge, setup for inspection, when dismissed 180 turn and jog back. She didn't rush this time Our bak was abit forced but the juded was so far away I don't think she noticed. Our setup was nice, Misty stopped with her hinds already square! Our pivot was pretty good and she picked up the jog nicely. The only thing was at the end I forgot to stop and wait for recognition We ended up with 4th out of 12 ish.

Our last line class was halter. She behaved pretty well but wouldn't set up quite properly. We didn't place

Then we tacked up for Western Pleasure and tried to use the mud arena. Misty handled the mud well until we had to lope. She pickled up her right lead but we kept breaking gait to dodge or jump over puddles But overall I was pleased with her. We got 2/6, we placed right behind someone who shouldn't have been in our division anyways.

Then we had horsemanship. The pattern was jog to the cone, stop, 360 to the left, left lead lope to the second cone, stop, back 4 steps and jog over to the rail and line up. The cones were placed only about 20' apart, not much room to make a good transition. I was happy with our pattern, the only thing was that we got the wrong lead and I didn't have enough time to change it. We got 3/4, if we had tried to change our lead we may have gotten second though

Then we took a lunch break and headed back for the gaming. They were debating cancelling the afternoon due to the mud but it went on anyways.

First off was poles. Misty was good. We veered away from a couple of puddles, or atleast I thought we did... Weaving was nice But we had to trot around the last pole. When we came back everyone was laughing. Misty didn't veer away from the puddles... she leaped clear over them We got 2 out of 4.

Then came barrels By then the arena had mud up to your knees!!! THe first barrel the mud was OK-ish, we still had to trot around it. The second barrel was worse, quite abit of mud but the last barrel has horrible! There was a massive puddle around the entire barrel and thick mud everywhere else. Misty was OK with the course but of course we were slow. We got 3 out of 4

Then down and back. With the barrel right where the last barrel was in barrels it was just horrible. Misty ran pretty quickly (for her atleast). We ended up getting 3/4.

And the last event was big T. Misty ran it very nicely, the obstacles seeed to just miss all the muddy spots. We got 1/3

Then we headed back home

Our next show is a fun day (with costumes and just games) and they'll anounce high point
