Tarps, trashcans, and other scary things...

Posted 03-08-2007 at 08:53 AM by No1Dazy
Well, we spent 3 hours sacking my young horse out last Sunday. I actually went with the intention of riding her, but she was being so spooky that I decided she needed a good sacking out. She is a serious HARD HEAD!

She got over mostly everything pretty quickly, with the exception of the tarp. She never did truly give in to it, she just exhausted herself...so, I went with immersion therapy--I hung tarps on the two open sides of her stall. She spent HOURS standing in the corner,...

Progress--flying changes, pirouettes, and steering

Posted 02-05-2007 at 07:29 AM by No1Dazy
Well, YAY! My mare is finally getting her brain wrapped around the change. She's not leaping and jumping anymore, and I'm SO pleased. They're not always clean, but it's coming and I have hope now. We're actually GETTING good quarter and half pirouettes, which is SUPPOSED to be harder than flying changes, but I disagree.

The other good news is that my 3 year old is trotting off the lunge line now. We even have power steering--she's doing well for only her second time off the...

Lessons, mine and auditing a clinic

Posted 01-15-2007 at 11:12 AM by No1Dazy
We went to watch the Harald Bauer clinic in Austin this weekend. He's one of the head riders for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

It's a good thing it was in an indoor ring, because everything here is under water. (I haven't gotten to ride since Thursday, and it's looking like it's going to be next weekend before our ring clears up, IF it stops raining!) The fee was $175/ride, so I audited first before committing to a lesson when I'd never seen him teach. He was good, but I'm...

Why I love our local schooling shows...

Posted 10-02-2006 at 08:31 AM by No1Dazy
I have a horse in training with me right now who is one of the biggest, um, "rebels" I've ever seen. He bucks, rears, you name it. I took him in training to keep him from killing the young teenager who owns him! He's a really attractive horse, when he keeps all four feet on the ground. Anyways, I ride him at home in a gag bit (with two reins, so I can use it as a snaffle while he's behaving) to keep him from being able to get into a position to buck me off. I rarely ride ANY horse...

Back from boot camp, with hope for changes!

Posted 09-29-2006 at 08:54 AM by No1Dazy
Well, Flying Change boot camp is over and Bella is home. I've never seen a horse so happy to be back! I'm sure she's over the REALLY hard work she's been doing for the past week.

I got what I wanted, which is knowing that we COULD teach her changes--we weren't sure if that was even possible. So we know they're in there, and she CAN do them easily and correctly.

Last night wasn't as good as the lesson before, since she came out a little sore, but we got lots of...
